Brands of oil to use
I read that Castrol Syntec oil isn't a 'pure base' synthetic oil, hence the word "tech" It does qualify to be called synthetic though. I use to use it years ago and was shocked to hear that.
Upon further review...... after reading up on BITOG about Ford 4.6L owners experience with GC I have decided to stick to 5w20. Seems the GC 0w30 is on the heavy side of the 30w classification, "drives like a 40wt" "lost 3 mpg" "car felt sluggish, like the plugs were fouled" were some of the user comments. As for it being a blend no it's not, GERMAN Castrol, only available in 0w30, is a true synthetic, actually a VERY good oil, but it seems too heavy for our motors.
I've been running Royal Purple 5w-20 Synthetic and a Ford racing filter, went to RP and the racing filter after first 100 miles got 2900 miles on my 06 its running great so far!....
