Brands of oil to use
US Castrol Syntec is Group III (dino oil) and the only Group IV Syntec in the US is the German Castrol 0W-30 (Says Made in Germany on the back of the bottle).
A "true" synthetic engine oil uses Group IV or Group V basestocks. Mobil 1, Redline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Pennzoil Platinum (Group V), and German Castrol 0W-30 are such synthetics.

It doesn't really make that much difference to me. Like I said it's works just fine for me, plus the cost is another factor.
I went to Walmart and bought the proper Motorcraft oil filter for $3.28, the Motorcraft Premium Synthetic Blend 5W-20 oil for $10.36 (a five qt container), and a 1qt container for $2.32. So total spent on OEM supplies only $15.96!! I didn't know they sold Motorcraft stuff. So from now on I'll just buy it there and do it myself. Again thanks for all the input.
I have always gone to Wal-mart for my motorcraft FL-820-S filters. They are the cheapest because Wal-Mart deals directly with Motorcraft for volume/bulk buys. I will have to check on their Motorcraft 5W-20 though.
BTW does the owner's manual say anything about how often the oil has to be changed? It used to be every 3 months or 3,000 miles. I see that Ford now specifies every 5,000 miles on 5W-20 but I did not see any mention of month/time intervals for oil changes.

Yeah, sure is awful when you can buy Motorcraft oil and a filter for about half to two thirds the price you would pay somewhere else. They seemed to be well stocked with all kinds of automotive supplies for washing and waxing etc. While we were in there my wife went into the grocery dept and most of the groceries were also cheaper than the sale prices at the market we usually shop at. Terrible isn't it!
Yes I have been getting my Motorcraft oil in the 5 qt. container from Walmart too. They have been out for a while now here in Central Indiana and I am thinking that they just might quit carrying it so you might want to stock up guys!

Haven't any of you seen the documentary, "The High Cost of Low Prices"?
...or read that article in Fast Company magazine, regarding Wal-Mart's responsibility for the destruction of small-town America?

Haven't you noticed that Levi Jeans aren't made in America anymore? Within the last decade, they have closed ALL 70 of their US factories, and now "Levi's Signature" is their brand. (made in China) Why? because Walmart forced them to lower their prices to $20 and under for jeans, and they had to go overseas and use crappier material in order to stay afloat. Who else is gone, you ask? Master Lock Co. -same reason... Vlasic pickles....filed chapter 11 (remember those ridiculous gallon-sized jars at walmart a few years ago for $2.99 a jar?) and many more...

Anyway, it doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to walk through the aisles at Wal Mart and realize that everything is cheaper than down the street. (Duh!)
The problem is, for all of the brain-drones out there who haven't ever given it two thoughts, those low prices aren't because Wal Mart just so happens to like you and wants to be your friend. They want your money in mass quantities...then, they want your employers' money...then, their business...then their suppliers business and so on....until they not only have their hands in every piece of the pie, they're the bakers as well!
Do yourself a favor and watch that documentary, and you'll get the picture.
and ask yourself this...what good are low prices to you if you've lost your job because you work for a company that got crushed under the walmart squeeze? Or you now get paid less than you would have BEFORE WM had so much power?
If this seems like I'm trying to spread some sort of 'Walmart's trying to take over the world" psycho-babble. I'm not. Just ask ANY vendor who deals with The Walmart corp. on a business level, and they'll tell you. There is nothing psycho-babble about it. Wal mart IS going to take over the world eventually. We'll all be wearing blue vests someday!
Did you know that Wal mart pulls down over 315 BILLION in revenue a year? It is the second largest company (revenue) in the world, topped only by Exxon/Mobil. (Guess that's why Mobil1 is so pricey!
The other oil companies are farther down the list!
You guessed it...that means that WalMart has the same, if not more political power as the oil companies. I don't know about you, but that scares the hell outta me!
This is not the same "Made in America" company that was started by Sam Walton. (most of their products aren't made here!) In fact, he would be turning over in his grave if he knew what his family has done with his vision.
Ok...off of my soapbox now. If I've convinced just one person to give it a second thought before shoehorning into a WalMart the next time they felt like they needed to buy gardening shears, froot loops AND get a haircut and their taxes done all from the same store, then my work here is complete!
I feel you bud. Been trying to stop feeding the machine for a while now. Probably won't do any good, but I feel better!! Can't stand Wal-Mart and the crowds anyway, I'd rather go to target or somewhere and pay a few extra dollars! Wal Mart is

If you think Target is any different, think again. I once found Target selling the SAME Made in China $1 store trinkets as the $1 store, except for $5.99!
Ford is pretty bad when it comes to using only American parts. You have a Mexican made TR-3650 5-speed manual transmission, Mexican wiring harnesses and connectors, soon-to-be made in Chinese Visteon radios, Chinese Visteon PCMs, Chinese Visteon airbag controllers, etc...
The S-197s have something like 65% domestic parts content (AALA) whereas the 2004-up Toyota Avalon had a 73% or higher domestic parts content on the AALA label.
IIRC, the AALA label considers US and Canada to be "domestic" and does not include Mexico. Visteon, TRW, and many other Tier 1 suppliers are moving to China.

A co-worker's 2006 Honda Accord said it came with a sheet that basically said everything but the transmission was made domestically.
I just heard that as well. Someone on BITOG ran gas chromatography on M1 EP 15W-50 and saw that it was mostly Group III. I am not sure how long this has been going on, but I suspected something like this might happen almost 3 years ago but everyone said "no, it wouldn't happen."
Once I'm done with my supply of engine oils, I'm going back to Supertech non-synthetic. If they want to play their basestock and additive package games, fine by me. I'm going to pay the least money possible while they do so.

What about Mobil 1 ATF where it says everything is synthetic with the exception of the carrier oil?

Interesting! Some of the BITOG members asked Mobil and got a response saying that they use fully synthetic additives, but no definite answer on the base stock.

I don't know as much about the ATF but my understanding is that it's fully synthetic as well.
