BBK Longtubes, Catted X, Pypes MM Installed (Review,Pics/Vids)

Well this thread is a little overdue, but I figured better late than never! There are not a lot of people out there who have BBK Headers, so I wanted to get the scoop out on the Headers, their quality, fitment, etc.

I ordered my BBK Ceramic Headers and matching Catted X from LMperformance.com before Christmas time and got a pretty killer deal with free shipping. (They came with 02 Extenders, and new gaskets) In addition, I also decided it was time to let go of the Stingers and picked up the new Mid Muffler set up from Pypes also with free shipping but this time ordered from AmericanMuscle.com.

Headers: Fit and finish was great, quality of welds and collectors looked great as well. Fit in the engine bay like a glove, although getting them there was pretty tough!

BBK X-Pipe: Great Quality piece, but was a PITA to install due to Mechanic Error My friend and I tightened all the bolts on the LTs down to spec and didn't leave enough 'slack' in them to effectively slide the X-Pipe on..So basically after all the Header bolts were tightened, we had to immediately un-tighten them- However, after that the X matched up to the Headers pefectly!

Pypes MidMuffler: Good piece at a Nice price, but the Fitament was not perfect and I had to get a muffler shop to align the tips.

Review:
  • All in all the System sounds great, and can be had for a bargain at just over $1100 while still being completely legal- That is as long as you can keep your foot out of it!!
  • Paired with the Brenspeed Re-tune the car pulls EXTREMELY hard all the way to redline. I expected a small drop in low end torque, but I really didn't notice anything- However this could be due to the fact that I have Gears (390s)
  • I feel over the last 300 or so miles the whole system has 'broken in' and seems to have gained a very deep tone despite the X pipe. On the 'Maiden Voyage' there was slight resonance around 3K rpms that occured at half throttle, yet now (Post-Break In) it has All but vanished.
  • The thing I like best about this system is that as long as you retain the cats you can stay under the Police Radar, but there is no doubt about it when you hit the 'GO' pedal the car abosolutely roars to life!
  • All in All I feel the system can be had for a bargain, produce good power increases, create great tone, and honestly depending on the way you drive- You can be as loud or docile as you would like.
  • Would I do it again? In a heat beat!
Video: [Car is A LOT louder in person, and like I said has an increased growl/deep tone that seems to increase as the mufflers break in]

Part II of the Video: Is coming soon, with a Better Camera and more WOT Footage with the Exhaust how it sounds now that is has Broken in- Stay Tuned!!

Sounds GREAT! Makes me want to trade the GTA's I have on now for something alittle more agressive when I do my L/T's...

Question, is the only option from BBK X pipe 2 3/4"? Meaning I'd have to replace the rest of my exhaust system? to match the larger dia. size?

BBK have any other options that'll fit there L/Ts?

But wow sounds great

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!

Jon, yes I believe that is the only size offered from BBK but I do not see why the rest of your exhaust would not fit, however its 2:00am and I don't fully understand the question haha

Also responding to the PM, BBK only offers an X pipe both Catted and Catless for their headers- Though I would guess you could have a good shop construct an O/R H

I paid right at 850 for the headers and mid pipe shipped with gaskets, and o2 extenders. Then I bought the Pypes MM system for 300 and ended up selling my Stingers for 300, so the cost off-set.

I have a Brenspeed Intake/Tuner combo and was able to get an updated tune for the new Exhaust setup for free via Email.

I think that was all of your questions, But If need-be I'll get more detailed tomorrow when I wake up...Feel free to shoot me another PM if I missed something

BTW I am pretty set on the Novi2200, so be sure to let me know exactly how your install turns out and your impressions. Hey, why don't you just cruise down to Central Texas and you can take me for a ride!! But seriously, keep me updated!

Ok you're my hero. I've been looking at this exact setup. Now my question is how much of a difference would the off-road x make sound wise? In Oklahoma I wouldn't have to have the cats. Plus I would mind saving a dollar or two and gaining some hp. Just checking. Thanks

Umm the only thing I can tell you for sure is that it would be loud! haha

I'm really unsure if the Midmuffler setup would eliminate all of the resonance that is found on the 05+ Mustangs running off road Xs, maybe someone with experiance running an O/R X will chime in soon

I just thought our stock system was 2.5" and adding a 2.75" long tube/x pipe would require the same size back? Maybe I'm making this more complicated then it is. Haha

So its 304SS? Wow and coated. Hmm... Your not making my job of narrowing down my long tube set ups any easier. Whats making it hard is that I love how the prochamber sounds and its hard to find a system which will take that and have long tubes.
