BamaChips 95 Torque vs. 95 Performance
This coming Saturday I'm planning a short trip to Germany and back home on the same day and I plan to test the 2 tunes I have from Doug (95 torque & 95 performance), sperarately on each of the 2 runs.
On my way there, I will use the torque tune to drive 90 miles through Holland (75 mph highway limit) and 60 miles into Germany (no speed limit).
On the way back, I'll install the performance tune and try to run the same speeds.
I'm mainly interested in 2 aspects: maximum speed with the limiter removed on the Autobahn (XCal2) and lowest fuel consumption (in Holland, driving 60-75 mph). I'll post the results on Sunday. I'm hoping for little traffic and no rain, otherwise the results won't be very accurate. My money now is on a top speed of 155 mph and 28 mpg (at 60-75 mph).
Has anyone else tried to find out what the maximum speed was with the limiter removed?

Louie,
Tried a similar thing last week (max speed and mpg), but used only the Torque tune.
First, I picked up a few mph with the governor disabled and Doug's 92 octane tune, but no way was I hitting 155, unless the speedo was off. It pulled well past the 143 governed speed, and even past the 145mph notch (numbers stop at 140), but it did NOT move past the 240kph notch, and I had it pinned going down hill for at least 10 seconds. The tach wasn't budging either. My guess is that with minor bolt-ons (tune, intake, exhaust) our cars are drag limited at about 150. I doubt I'll try it again, but you might want to reset the "avg speed" measure after you've pinned it. may give a more accurate reading.
The gas mileage story was something else, though. I was floored. at 45-50mph I saw an honest to god 29.5 mpg (construction slow down, and I was following a semi for over 10 miles). Even at 75 mph I was still averaging almost 24, a 3 mpg improvement.

Seriously now, what we have here as 95 octane is actually 95RON, which is more or less the same as the 93MON you can find in the US.

Be careful, MON, RON and Octane are all different fuel rating systems.
Octane 95 = RON 100 (Very limited in UK)
Octane 93 = RON 97.5 (Shell Optimax and BP Ultimate in UK)
Octane 91 = RON 95 (Premium Unleaded in UK your basic stuff)
Octane 89 = RON 93 (Not available in UK)
Octane 87 = RON 91 (Not available in UK)
I am unsure how MON compares but the above is accurate for what Octane levels are in RON so make sure your using the right fuel for the tune/timing of your car or your engine will be suffering.

Well, I specified to Doug that I wanted the tunes for 95RON, since that's what I use from the local SHELL and BP stations. And I'm extremely pleased with the results!

"In practice the octane of a gasoline is reported as the average of RON and MON or R+M/2"

Well, here's the update with the final results:
1. 95 Torque tune:
- avg. fuel consumption at 80 mpg: 23.5 mpg
- max. speed: 150+ mph on tacho (GPS indicated: 153 mph)
2. 95 Performance tune:
- avg. fuel consumption at 80 mpg: 23.0 mpg
- max. speed: 155+ mph on tacho (GPS indicated: 158 mph)
Comparing the 2 tunes, I can say that the TQ tune is smoother at lower rpm while the HP tune performs better at 4000+ rpm and all the way up to WOT, where shifting is very quick and powerful.
Thanks again, Doug!

Ask Doug for the Race tune and let us know what you think of that...
