I personally think if you supercharge and not change at least the Rods,You will eventualy have a rod failure wich will be a engine failure.
Powdered rods with split caps are garbage and will crack and brake in my opinion over time from the stresses of much greater compression from BOOST.
Our Cars are "Heavy" and to move that much mass with Boosted pressure.Making our Garbage rods work much harder is a recipe for failure.............just my opinion but I think it makes sence.

Hi Mike,
I couldn't agree with you more. Blew up a 96 Cobra running a KB with 8-9 lbs. Rods and pistons are junk for power adders. Just curious. Doesn't the juice put the same pressure on the rods and pistons?

Can we just change rods? Would that be enough for a 5-6 lb boost? I am thinking of the Roush myself. And if so is there any good step bt steps out there on the web? It has been a long time since I rebuilt a motor a 1981 F150 and that was easy because of all the room to swap out heads etc.

Personally, I don't see the benefit of tearing into the engine to replace the rods, and then leave the hyperpathetic pistons and cast crank in there as well.

You may not like to hear this about your beloved mustang but sometimes the truth hurts!!! When you have spent 6 k to rebuild than maybe you won't be down sided!

I believe he is referring to the fact that this thread was started in early 2005 and sat dormant for 12 months, and then it got resurrected for some reason. So yes... "this thread is old".

When this Thread was started, supercharger kits were not available yet ,so now that they are readily available the questions are more current.
So to the People that have nothing better to say than complain about the thread being old<Go somewhere else................. The funny thing about this thread is that PHP had a V6 in Bradenton with a Vortech on it running high 11's. It just goes to show the learning curve. When this thread was started, Paul probably didn't know enough about this particular motor yet, comfortably, to take on the liabilty/risk involved. Who cares how old the thread is. It's good to see before and afters.

Running a boosted car is all about the tune. In my 2001 GT, which has basically the same bottom end, I ran a Novi 2000 with 11psi of boost, and NO INTERCOOLER. My tuner knew exactly what he wass doing, and kept the timing moderate and the fuel pressure high. I ran that setup for over a year and it was still going strong when I sold the car.

I ran 429rwhp with the old PI 2V heads...The 3V motors will be good up to about 425-450rwhp...more than that and you are probably living on borrowed time, due to piston and rod strength issues.
