Yeah, but I was saying detonated because the motor straight up busted. Not that they were getting a lot of pinging. They failed for various reasons from rings giving way to the lower journals (Main crank bearings) cracking, wrist pins, bent rods. I think if I recall I heard there was at least 4 seperate (probable causes) to the engine failures they found on the SEMA cars. All pretty much pointing to the weak bottom end. I heard some of the fixes were different piston heads (stock have long skirts ???) better rods, and replacing the lower rod bearings. And the something about the ring design on the (hypoelectic???? spelling) piston used in the GT not being strong enough to handle boost from a supercharger.

Could you provide some specifics, especially who specifically blew-up and what your source of information is? Thanks,The Boss Hog

NosferatuVI,
Have you come up with any specifics yet?

If you care to look up what happened to all those "tuner" cars at SEMA you will see that 90% of the them detonated in the parking lot while they were doing donuts.
As a testemant that the S/C on the GT's still needs to be refined and dialed in for the amount of boost the stock internals can take.

jeez! how much boost were they running?
CRAPOLLA!!!! I have been pounding the crap out of my car and no problems at all. 445hp to the rear... pump gas, 8lbs of boost. Mad burn outs, hamering it through the gears etc.... as long as the tuneup is right, it will live for a long time. The bottom end parts are a little better than a Mach 1 and there are a ton of them out there blown.

Guys come on! You can put a s/c on this motor IF the tune is right. You MUST take it to a good tuner. Chris Johnson tuned our car for 5.0 Magazine and we talked a bunch about different blowers for these cars. He is very confident that when our Procharger gets here it will be tuned and we will have plenty of years of enjoyment from the motor!
:nono: Seems like a lot of speculation, what-ifs and shoulda-coulda-woulda arm chair quarterbacking on this thread. Don't see any substantial facts or figures posted to support the apparent sky-is-falling attitude.
Where's the facts, links and data?

Ford knows how to Party
After brushing shoulders all morning with what seemed like every ambulatory person that has ever lived, when Ford met for lunch and "activities" outside, I was all about it. Outside in the alarmingly cool desert air, Ford had tents full of food, stands full of people, and a proving grounds full of idling, pissed off Mustangs.
OK, we're Nissan folks here, no need to send me dyno charts of your DE-T, but given the chance to slide around a supercharged 2004 Mustang Cobra, I'm drifting like Tom Hanks on a raft. They had two 2005s (the new retro 'Stang), the aforementioned 2004 Supercharged Cobra, and a Special Project rear-drive 451 HP Focus. Weeeeeeee.

According to my friend in Vegas on Wednesday night (late afternoon?) in this Ford area some of the tuner companies had S/C GT's out there doing donuts for some "Ford Brass" I don't know who was there or if it had anything to do with "SVT" people being there wondering what would happen to the stock engine on Boost. But according to what I heard that several tuner cars tached out and blow motors. May be false may be true but this is what I had heard.

Heh... All that sounds like a detonation problem
I bet that aluminum 4.6 block is far tougher than an old 5.0 block and the 5.0 blocks are good for 550 to 600 hp. I cant comment on pm rods, although cap alignment is way better than your typical cast or forged rod.
Even if this is your typical "It must be true cause its on the internet" BS I think its a tuning issue and not a material issue.
