hole shot,

I bet you once they send you the new kit, they will ask you to box up the old ones and send them back to Flowmasters and send you a UPS sticker to put on the box when its boxed up, I've had to do that 3 times already for Flowmaster

No, they didnt even ask me for them back. Of course this was early in the game...back in October. Maybe they are wanting them back now for analysis.

In fact, I even asked if they wanted them back and the guy said I should make a planter out of them....haha.

Well at least if you keep your old kits, when one of em goes you might still have a spare.

I'm not trying to throw away the flowmasters, its a great sounding exhaust, but if I have to keep crawling under my car and changing out the exhaust every 3-4 months because a weld inside one of the mufflers comes loose and causing rattling, I dont want to have to crawl under there everytime! I just want an exhaust I can just bolt and go and not worry about crawling under there agian, unless I get a mid-pipe or something. But its a pain!!

Holy crap you guys might just have solved my problem for me - the one that has been drving me nuts

I describe it as a ‘rattle’ or ‘metallic flutter’

It is mainly noticeable when you have your FOOT in it, as you hit maybe 1000 to 2000, it just blares out…..

So to me it sounds like the same thing you guys are describing!

The rattle seems mainly from the driver side is annoying as #@^%#@^&%# - thought it might have to do with the bassani X pipe – but thinking about it, it didn’t do it when I very first installed the Xpipe…… I was wracking my brains trying to think about what to do – and you guys might have just solved this problem for me – I gotta hunt up my receipt from 21st Century Exhaust and get a call into Flowmaster asap!

If it happens, see if flowmasters will compensate you for the installation cost.

Oh crap. Thanks to this thread, I think you can add me to the list. I've been noticing a metallic rattle under acceleration between 1250-1500 rpm. I think it's coming from the back right side, but I am not sure. I am positive the clamps are all tight because I really cranked those suckers down. Guess it's time to contact Flowmaster. Does anyone with the defective Flows have a manufacture date? I am think about getting Flows, but now I am not sure. I wonder if it's a production problem or a general design flaw.

did you deal directly with Flowmaster or did you have to go through your vendor? Did they ask for a receipt? How did it work?

I called Flowmaster in Santa Rosa, CA.

I spoke with Nick and told him that I have the American Thunders and that they are rattling all to heck. I told him that my local muffler shop, a certified Flowmaster dealer, determined it was a collapsed baffle. (He did that just by hearing me drive off of his lot) He asked me the name of the shop and said he would ship them out to them and he required that I have the shop install them for me. No reciept, no nothing...

I just got off the phone today with Flowmaster. My car is rattling all too heck again! I spoke with Nick again, and he directed me to his product manager this time. He said he would take care of me as long as I could wait 24 hours for a response. He said he would throw in some goodies too for my hassle!

These will be my 3rd set of Flows, and same with you, if they don't work I will get a full refund and try out the FRPP/Borlas!!!

Not sure of the defective date, but if you look near the curve the of the driver side muffler towards the right hand side, you will see 4 small digits. These numbers are the date that your mufflers were made. (Ex. 3535 is the 353rd day of 05)

Hrm, I am kind of worried because I have the rattle but it isn't too bad. It is only when the car is fully warmed up, and you can hear it when accelerating low to medium throttle from 1250-1500 RPM. It doesn't happen when just reving the car while stationary. Dan at Flowmaster help me set up an appointment at a local Midas shop to check it out tomorrow morning. I really hope they find something and don't tell me I'm nuts.

So far so good, no rattle, but yup same as you S197GT, this one fails on me, full refund and buying a set of FRPP/Borla Stingers.

I dunno, I might want to call that TMS members not too far from me and give his SLP's a try.

Well I took it in to Midas this morning, and they say nothing wrong with the mufflers, but the installation instead. They gave me a lot of BS on stuff I did wrong, etc, which makes me feel like an idiot. They said the clamps were loose, etc, which I don't know how they could be because I torqued the poo out of them with a 1/2" drive socket wrench. Anyways, I am going to let them "reset" and weld up the system on Saturday, and hopefully that will fix the problem. My stomach is still sick from watching someone I didn't know drive off with my car to "test drive" it, especially after I asked to go with to show them the problem (which they ignored). At least it looked like they guy who drove it wasn't beating on it at all, and looked happy to get to drive one. I know I shouldn't be so stressed out about this but it is hard to let go of your baby, especially with strangers.

I wouldnt weld the system!! Because in time if the Midas guy is wrong, which I'm willing to bet he is, you'll end up with a welded system on your car and it'll be a while b4 u get that sucker off. I wouldnt do it unless you know for sure.

The guys at Flowmaster told me to take a rubber mallot to the rear and underside of the muffler and if I heard a rattle, they were defective.
