advice on decent floor jack

Hi guys,

I'm looking at getting a 3 ton? floor jack and jack stands for my GT and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a decent sub-$200.00 floor jack (if thats possible for the price)? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have 3 of these and got them like 1 1/2 years ago, and love them. I also have a 3 ton from Sears and plenty of jack stands.

I bought an aluminum race jack off fleabay a year or so ago. I love it. It's very light, easy to maneuver around the garage, and does a great job. It's not rated at 3 tons, but I don't need anywhere near that much.

Thanks for your help guys.

I am really liking that one from Harbor Freight. Never thought about Sams, I'll check there first.

You can get a 1 1/2 ton aluminum race jack at Autozone for $100... don't see any need for any larger jack for use on a mustang.

Just watch the news paper, Sears put them on sale all the time. That's where I got mine with stands, and it's a 3 ton for just over 100 bucks.

And you get the craftman's warrentee.

Wow! I can actually get a pretty decent jack for about $100. I feel a lot more confident in choosing one in that price range now. I really don't have a clue when it comes to quality regarding these, so now, thanks to everyones advice, I am an informed buyer.
I really appreciate everyones helpful info. Thank You!

Word of advice, never slide under a car using only the jack. Always use jack stands, it's a good way to stay alive.

Disregard, I'm sure you know that already!

Try to find a jack that has 21'' lift height or better.

Lowes has a Kobalt 3 ton jack for like $35.
I bought a 6 ton bottle jack there for $25. (to enhance my jack-ability)

remember to NEVER WORK UNDER A JACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's ok to work under properly used Jack Stands and I place a jack or 2 under the car when it's on jack stands for back-up.

Thanks, I sort of figured that, but you know it never hurts to mention it anyway. I, along with the rest of us(I'm sure) have known people where common sense just seemed to skip right past them .

Thanks also anthony05gt, I'll add that to the requirements list too.

Sharky, that's what had me so confused. Some of the prices of these jacks range from $40 up to $400 or more for similar lifting power. I know that you don't always get the best just because it costs more, but the really low priced ones scared me.

Well I am sure you get what you pay for... but...
If I am not going to be going under my car with just a jack, then I figure it's either going to lift the car or it isn't. And if it don't, I'll go and get another one.
Besides I am WAY too hard on my tools to invest in a $100 jack.

oh and your car looks awesome!
