Adaptive transmission or something wrong?

I used to have a 90GT with 3:73 gears, and that thing would absolutely ROAST the tires from practically any speed in 1st or 2nd gear. Now I typically drive in alot of stop and go, slow freeway, side streets, and I drive it like a normal car 95% of the time. But every once in a while when I'm coming around a corner, I'll downshift to 2nd (manual trans) and just bury my foot in it so I can get a little squirrely. However, it just bogs down until I hit about 3K RPM, then it wakes up and starts to pull.

I live in Phoenix, so yes I'm running the AC, but I have always been told that when you bury it, the AC compressor shuts off to give you access to all of the power. I know there will still be a slight loss, but I've done this with the AC off just to test as well as with the TC off, just to make sure.

I know firsthand that it will break the tires loose all the way through the 2-3 shift with the AC on , um, or so I've read, yeah that's it, so the AC doesn't interfere THAT much.

Anyway, is this the transmission / computer "learning" that I drive like a normal human being most of the time so it slightly detunes the immediate foot plant into the firewall? Or could it be the stock gears vs. what the 3:73's did for the old Mustang? Or could it be the stock computer tune and the throttle by wire system attempting to increase my gas mileage? Perhaps a combination of all 3?

I'm interested to see if anyone else with a stock Mustang gets the same response from the car vs. those with mods. Thanks for your help and responses!

I was under the impression the adaptive transmission was the automatic, not the manual. The slower throttle response you're experiencing is supposed to be significantly improved by a tuner like SCT or Diablo. Partial closing of the throttle plate close to shift points doesn't help either, along with the torque management. The tuner is also supposed to help with these too.

I have noticed something similar to what you have with my Automatic tranny. I did a test resetting my computer. First I did a spinout after driving the car for two weeks, then disconnected the battery and did it again. Boy what a difference after the reset. Next time I take my car to the track I will run it after cooling down. Then reset the computer, let it cool down and run it again. That should let me know the difference.

My car is showroom stock and had 1700 miles at its first Run at the 1/4 Mile. My first run was a 14.67 at 95 and during that run i noticed it shifting before redline. I knew the Auto trans was shifting early. So I decided to clear the ECM by pulling the keep alive at Fuse 45. Let it cool 45 min then drove it straight the 1/4 mile and ran a 14.00 at 98. In D.. OD off ..TCS off.. It shifted at redline except for the 3-4 shift ... it was about 5800. I get my tune and intake this week so I wont have to worry about that anymore I hope.

Where is Fuse 45 located? Under hood or in passenger compartment. This is good info.

I tell you can't keep anyone on these forums happy. you ask a question that has been posted previously be it 3 years ago you get ragged on for asking a question that already got asked and not using the search feature. Now someone uses the search feature and brings up a old thread to ask or post further info on a subject already talked about and they get ragged on.

Make up your freakin minds as to which way you want it.

Yup +1 Us guys with older cars that have been here a few years need to remember that people are buying new stangs everyday and will ask the same questions we have all talked about a long time ago. We all need to have some patience with each other and remember when we were the Newbies.

06GT4RAD I did use the search... and have since I found this site online. So much information! I have tried the search on other forums and have come up empty. I am glad I ran into this link about the reset of the ECM ( it is under the hood )

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...ight=ecm+reset

I did this to my un tuned car. I now have a tune from bama so I wont have to pull #45 fuse anymore.

I am still searching for the user setting info for the SCT flash for WOT A/F and Shift RPMS for auto. It might be trial and error for me. I might even data log during a 1/4 mile run to see what I get. I am not sure if I just leave it with dougs canned tune or also play with those settings. One day I will bring it to a dyno but waiting for Doug to make a trip out to Dallas so maybe he can tweak it here.

Yeah i figured you did use the search feature my comments were not directed at you in anyway.

I was directing comments above at the one who decide to bag on you for bringing a old thread up.

Also even with the Tunes the car gets stale and I hate disconnecting the battery and avoid it at all costs. But if I can clear the KAM by simply removing a fuse then i am all for that and will use this once in a while.

What tune do you run? I might email Doug at Bama to ask if the tune changes that adaptive junk. The race tune with just my C&L intake barked the tires 1-2 2-3 3-4 with 3.31 gears... I was surprised!

Cool

Yea, my Bama race tune does the same thing to my automatic!! Been driving around the last couple of days with it (race tune) in the car instead of my usual torque tune, going to the track tomorrow, will pull my fuse to reset the KAM since I've been driving it kinda carefully lately (don't want another ticket and teaching my teens how to drive too!!) Btw, teens and that ultra sensitive go pedal make for some fun!!JK!!
