Newbie question: Does installing the 4.10's void the warranty?
Thanks

Only if the repair needed is the result of the new gears. No warranty can be voided unless the repair is caused by the modification.

Go 4:10....You will not regret it. Thr 05 I have been driving has 4:30s and they are very livable. This same thing happened in 96 when the modular Cobra first came out. Everyone FEARED the gear and bought 3:73s....then 4:10s...then 4:30s....Now its commonly known that 4:56s are very livable in street strip cars...

I know you can find a new set of FRPP gears between $125-$300. I know! I paid $300 for my first set and $125 for my second set. I got hosed on the first ones. I just sold a barely used set for $75. $75 for a used set with a centered/perfect wear pattern is a pretty good deal.

Well I called 2 more shops here in town, and the price, at 5 different shops now is betwen $600 and $650. I wish I lived where it was $400. Again, this price includes the gears.

I changed out my first set of 4.10's due to a casting flaw and went to another set of 4.10's. I then went to 4.30's and then 4.56's. I'd still be in the 4.10's if it cost me $600 a pop. Okay, I would probably still be in the 56's, but I wouldn't be happy with it.

Have you ever driven a modular with 4:10s? I am just curious where you base your opinion. You seem to think pretty strongly against them. Some people just will put up with more I guess...I drove a 96 Cobra DAILY for over a year with 4:88s From a top end standpoint I believe you will actually have a higher overall top end since 5th will be easier to accelerate it

Well, I have run 4.11's in a big block camaro, (427ci) (12 bolt posi rear ), the car was quicker on the bottom end for it, but a PITA to drive on the hwy. anyway I have not used this ratio with a modular motor, I still feel that the mathematics are almost the same though, 3.55's or even 3.73's are the better choice for a daily commuter with a few mild modifications..of course this is just IMO..

P.S. Does anybody know if most performance shops will recalibrate the computer for the gear swap, or will they make you buy the tuner. I just want gears, the K&N setup and some mufflers untill the warrenty is up.

I paid about $360 for my gear install (in L.A.) - that did not include parts or even lube. L.A. is more expensive than other areas.

I'm in L.A., too. What shop do you use? I'm looking for a good shop.

Installing Ford Motorsport, because that's all anyone has. Noone seems to have Motive, although I believe someone said that Motive makes the Motorsport gears anyway.
