Newbie question: Does installing the 4.10's void the warranty?

Thanks

I paid about $360 for my gear install (in L.A.) - that did not include parts or even lube. L.A. is more expensive than other areas.

Only if the repair needed is the result of the new gears. No warranty can be voided unless the repair is caused by the modification.

Go 4:10....You will not regret it. Thr 05 I have been driving has 4:30s and they are very livable. This same thing happened in 96 when the modular Cobra first came out. Everyone FEARED the gear and bought 3:73s....then 4:10s...then 4:30s....Now its commonly known that 4:56s are very livable in street strip cars...

I know you can find a new set of FRPP gears between $125-$300. I know! I paid $300 for my first set and $125 for my second set. I got hosed on the first ones. I just sold a barely used set for $75. $75 for a used set with a centered/perfect wear pattern is a pretty good deal.

Well I called 2 more shops here in town, and the price, at 5 different shops now is betwen $600 and $650. I wish I lived where it was $400. Again, this price includes the gears.

I couldn't find a shop around me to install them for less than $500 for labor alone. So, $600 isn't too bad. $500 seems to be the national average for gears and install.

I changed out my first set of 4.10's due to a casting flaw and went to another set of 4.10's. I then went to 4.30's and then 4.56's. I'd still be in the 4.10's if it cost me $600 a pop. Okay, I would probably still be in the 56's, but I wouldn't be happy with it.

I wish all of you luck with the 4.10 ratio, I still think it is overkill for a daily driver, to each his own I guess...Good luck with em...

Have you ever driven a modular with 4:10s? I am just curious where you base your opinion. You seem to think pretty strongly against them. Some people just will put up with more I guess...I drove a 96 Cobra DAILY for over a year with 4:88s From a top end standpoint I believe you will actually have a higher overall top end since 5th will be easier to accelerate it

Well, I have run 4.11's in a big block camaro, (427ci) (12 bolt posi rear ), the car was quicker on the bottom end for it, but a PITA to drive on the hwy. anyway I have not used this ratio with a modular motor, I still feel that the mathematics are almost the same though, 3.55's or even 3.73's are the better choice for a daily commuter with a few mild modifications..of course this is just IMO..

BTW no Camaro cracks ok

Did your Camaro have overdrive? When I had my 65mustang it was only a 3speed and stinked on the freeway, when I had my 92 mustang I had 3:73's with a 4 speed overdrive, so a 5 speed with 4:10's should be easy to live with. The Toyota 4runner I am living with now untill my GT is built, hits about 2600 rpm's at 80 mph. As soon as my GT gets here it's off to the muffler shop and then to get the 4:10's put in.
P.S. Does anybody know if most performance shops will recalibrate the computer for the gear swap, or will they make you buy the tuner. I just want gears, the K&N setup and some mufflers untill the warrenty is up.

That's a good question. I think with a 5 speed OD, 4.10's should be fine. I really haven't heard of one person who put 4.10's on who minded the sound on the highway. I've heard complaints as far as gas mileage. But, I didn't buy a V8 to save on gas. I'd take the added power over gas money anyday. I'm leaning towards 4.10's still... even with the auto tranny.

The overdrive with 4.10's gives you the best low end and also a good highway gearing.

Please tell me you are kidding....Comparing a 427 4 speed car to a 281 modular 5 speed car? Apples to oranges is not even a strong enough statement. Put a Richmond 5 speed in that Camaro and it would be a different story altogether. The Camaro motor probably made more tqe at 3000 rpms than the 05s make PEAK so a taller gear will definately help the 05 reach the sweet spot of the powerband faster

Installing Ford Motorsport, because that's all anyone has. Noone seems to have Motive, although I believe someone said that Motive makes the Motorsport gears anyway.
