15-20 ftw, 35 is too light, anything less is too dark at night.

interesting... I was worried that having two different tint levels on the front and my little vert rear windows would look tacky but you pulled it off. Maybe I'll go 20% rear, 20% middles, and 35% fronts.

Then you'd look like mine, just a little lighter in the rears, and a little closer match. I'd go that route. Personally, I wish my rears were slightly lighter (like 20%), because you can't tell if the Crown Victoria behind you has a light bar on top. -----

good point... I'll stick to 20% on the back and quarter windows, then 35% up front. That should be dark enough for me while still legal. She goes to the stop tomorrow morning 8am !!

FYI, 20% on the rear window is NOT legal. I believe NC law is 35% all around.

Also, you *may* want to reconsider getting it done, to save you the money and hassle of having the rear window redone once the top gets a hole torn in it from the hinges...(which just happened to me, and has happened to quite a few other members on this forum)

Be carrefull. I don't know the law were you are but where i am the front window must allow 75% of the light to go throw. I tinted my windows, got arrested by cop, send me to inspection.
Got there confident. I was wrong, i failed the inspection. so i remove my front window tint and go back to inspection. And stock the result is 18% tint. yeah it's already tinted from stock, and it's near the law, a little add of tint and it's done.

well... what a PITA. I just got back from the shop and they are telling me they are not allowed to tint me illegal. Apparently my only option is to tint 35% all the way around. That's not what I'm looking for, that's barely tinted at all !!

I need to find a shop that will tint me illegal in NC, I guess. Any tips?

You should be able to find someone to do it in 20% because 35% is just to light.

Keep calling around, You will be paying cash, no credit, no checks, no receipt and no warranty.
Then they'll do it illegally.

I just called five places in the greater Charlotte area... they won't do it. Anybody from Charlotte know of anywhere? I DO NOT feel comfortable doing this myself.

Don't go with 35%. Trust me, you won't be happy with it, it's very light in person. I had 20% on my last car, and went with 15% on the Mustang because I thought that 20 was still too light. 15 looks just right to me.
