Hurst Shifter

Can the Hurst shifter be installed without removing any exhaust or Tranmission components, and is this a easy job?

I say its a 2 out of 10 on the PITA scale. Make sure you use loctite on the bolts or you might be sorry down the road.

The biggest pita is the fact that you have to get the car in the air. Everything else is pretty straightforward.

Easy, but a third hand is very helpful!

Don't use the allen head bolts supplied, you can't get them tight enough and even with loctite they will come loose. I put hex head bolts in with loctite and they have stayed tight ever since.

Put mine in today. It took just over an hour. However, be aware of the directions. Mine were old and had the offset on the passenger side. THIS IS WRONG. After installing per the directions, I called the Hurst tech line and confirmed that the offset should be on the driver's side (should have called 1st but that's what happens with poor planning).

I like the "notchy" feel of the engagement but it will take a while to get used to the effort to put it into gear.

The shifter install is pretty straight forward. I had my car on ramps, and it was cozy, but I could get underneath to do it. From above, I dropped the whole shifter including my hand all the way down through the hole, then pulled my hand back, still holding onto the stick. Went in like a charm that way. A ratcheting box wrench will save some time on the front bolt, just don't trap the wrench with the bolt, switch to the open end after a bit. Enjoy your shifter!

The install is pretty easy. I got mine from subzero05. You should contact him if you do not have the shifter yet. It would be very worth your while to do so.
