F Stock SCCA champion ran the 295/30-18 Hoosier A6 on 18x8.5 rims. Also think lowered 1.5", adjustible shocks, and other modification.
295/30-18 on the fronts, that is sick!

They cars in question are Shelby GT's, which come with the FRPP springs stock, so as compared to a standard Mustang GT, they are lower. The 4th place trophy winner at the SCCA Solo Nationals in F Stock ran in our region locally this year, and after he got used to the car (he bought it at the beginning of the season) he really put a hurting on my co-driver and I in my '01 Bullitt, which was wearing 275/40-17 Kumho V710's.

All of us Shelby GT's were on 295's at Nationals. The last time I saw one on 285's was mine earlier in the year and Younger's tested a set at MiDiv 4 at the T&T, I believe? Dr. Kyle Langley '07 Shelby GT #5 FS
Not all of them were on 295's. Youngers and Huepenbecker ran 285's instead. I do run/was on Hoosier 295's. I was in Mike's Shelby, but I also run the 295's on my GT when I autox it). Sam Strano Owner--Strano Performance Parts 800-729-1831
Sam, after a good season's run do you still believe 295's are faster and wear better than the 285's? I had one set of 295's that was long lasting but one set that was gone "like that." The concrete at Salina did not help that set. My 285's lasted a long time but I was not driving as hard earlier in the year which may or may not have contributed to their life span. At this point in my career I am focused more on wear and not on the "faster" part yet, ha ha!
all you have to do is put one of each mounted up side by side while the 295 is slightly taller, it is significantly wider and the treadface is less crowned than the 285 for that wheel size (and the 8" wheel too, which we ran in BS) maybe proof that they can get the job done, but maybe proof that they could have done even better ... hard to say for sure

Car 141 is me.... I setup most of the Shelbys running. 295's are not "happy" on the 8.5" wheel, but they are faster for me and that's what matters. 275's wear better---- I want to win.
Car has Koni's, our adjustable front bar endlinks, an alignment, a Magnapack cat-back, different brake pads, Volk RE30 Forged wheels, and some different fluids (particularly in the diff.).
Any questions?

I just bought four Hoosier A6 295-30-18 for my 18" Polished Bullitts for autocrossing. The last event I placed 22nd on PAX on stock street tires. I am ready to make the jump to R-compunds.
Previous events, I have kept the 32 lbs of pressure all the way around, the shocks at 1.5 turns from soft all the way around. I tired different shock settings after the second of five runs. The 2 turns from soft, ie .5 turn from firm made the stock tires make a horrible sound with each turn. It was a loud tire scrubbing sound. This went away when I back it off to 1 turn from soft, and tried 1.5 again, no rubbing sound. But the full 2 turns made this horrible loud tire scrub sound.
Will I want 2 turns from soft with the R-compound tires? Or will I eat up the tires excessively with that setting? Any value in 2 turns up front and 1.5 turns in back. I noticed a sudden snap on oversteer with the shock at 2 turns. It might have been driver error.
Any input?
