275's on all four corners with 18x8.5's?
I had a quick question. Does anyone here have 275's mounted on all four corners with rims that are 8.5 inches wide? If so are they wearing evenly and performing well? Please also post pictures if you do.
Can't answer your qusetion but, I'm putting 275/40/17 drag radials on 8" OEM 17" rims. I'm guessing you're asking for the same reason I'm nervous, undersized rims... I plan on using my for straight lines 1/4 mile at a time
I had 295 35 on 9 inch rims and the tire looked pretty good to me.... but from what I have read that was to wide for a 9 inch rim. I think 275 would be to much for a 8.5 rim.
This is a 255/35/20 on a 8.5 wide wheel

I think it looks pretty good on there.

I have the stock 18" CS wheels with 275/40/18's in the rear and I have no problem with them at all. I think they'd look better on wider rims, but they function just fine. I've been told by several people that the stock mustang wheels (18's) can fit 275's all the way around without any problems whatsoever.
I was thinking about going with 275s all around on my stock 18" fanblades, but didn't want to worry about them mushrooming, giving wobbly cornering, so I went with 255s. My next set will likely be on wider rims, so I'll probably go bigger then.

There's what you can fit, and what's ideal. Ideal is to have the sidewall well supported. If you want the old school look of bulging sidewall, bias-ply look, then a too-wide tire will do that, but it does have the risk of coming off the bead with heavy cornering.
255 is good for 8, 275 for 9, and 285 on 9.5 (ie GT500 rims). Those are the 'approved' minimum wheel widths for 18s. More leeway with higher aspect ratios and smaller wheel diameters.

I had 275/40s on all four corners on a 9" wheel, no problems at all. I would not hesitate going to a 8.5" wheel; remember that not all 275/40 tires are exactly the same width; I had both 275/40 Nitto street tires and they were wider than 275/40 BFG drag radials.
I have Nitto 275/40ZR18 tires with Steeda 18X10 Ultra Lights. The ride is waaay better than the stock 18" bullitts. I can't wait to put them back on after winter. btw the ride is smooth as glass.

Been running the same setup for going on 4 years with no issues!
You might have an issue getting the tires off once you get them on. And there is a possibility of inner tire crease/tearing due to the larger size on an 8.5 rim (as happened to my tires), depending on how aggressive you drive in the twisties. I had 265/35 (BFG KDs) on an 8.5 rim and they were too large. (I had purchased the wheels/tires as a package and the previous owner had them installed. When the time came to replace, the tire changer said they were a pain to remove, but did so without damaging the rims (BBS RK). Needless to say my front 18x8.5 wheels now wear 245/40/18s and I am much happier with the sizing and performance. (My 18x10 rears wear 285/35/18.)
