2005 + GT Deluxe & Premium packages

How can I tell the difference between a Premium & a Deluxe package on a '05 or '06 GT? I am in the begining stages of purchasing one and I want to make sure I have my facts straight. Also what is the price difference between these packages?

Thanx,
Jack

Any Deluxe can be ordered with Premium options. Premium is standard with Leather and Shaker 500 to name a couple. If it has cloth it's a DELUXE for sure.

They are identical other then two options. Premium GT's come with leather and the shaker 500 standard, where they are options on the Deluxe. If you do get both options the Premium is a little cheaper. You can only get cloth in a Deluxe. I believe you need a premium to get options like the premier trim group, ICAP, comfort group, and NAV. Premier trim and Comfort group require the ICAP option. (ICAP is the interior color accent package-which can be all-black as well as dove/red/chamois/or parchment-parch and dove have black seats with the corresponding grey or tan colored plastics-the other three have charcoal plastics).

You can get cloth with instrument upgrade package, 18" wheels, gt apearance package, sirius, and the shaker 500.

What about the gauges? Which one has 4 gauges...which one has 2 gauges? or does it matter?

You can get the Instrument Upgrade Package(IUP as we call it). It includes the metal dash panels(charcoal or brushed aluminum), the leather steering wheel with metal spokes, a few silver finished items, and the 4-gauge cluster with MyColor. Its a bargain at under $500 and most vehicles have it. There is another option called the Sport Interior Upgrade Package (SIUP)with only the leather/metal spoke wheel. But if you see a metal dash, it has the IUP.

I cannot understand why Ford doesn't use SPIDs (Service Parts Identification Decal) like GM does. GM uses three character RPOs (Regular Production Option) which are all listed on the SPID. Not only does it include options but information about the basic build. In other words, it shows such things as engine, transmission, rear axle (open or posi), rear axle gearing, suspension package including springs, sway bars, wheels, interior trim, exterior badging color, exterior striping color, fog lamps, etc.... and also option packages.

If Ford used such a decal, it would tell you whether a car was the base, deluxe or premium as each "level" would have a unique RPO... With this decal, there is no question how a car was originally built. I've attached one belonging to an extremely rare 1989 Camaro, a 1LE. Out of 110,739 Camaros built that year, only 111 had the 1LE option, the rare Special Performance Components Package. As for my 1987 IROC-Z, I can tell you by looking at its SPID that it had the optional performance axle ratio, 4-wheel discs, engine oil cooler, optional interior, optional TPI, etc...

I have to agree with you. It's an excellant tool to use when hunting for parts in the junkyard. If you know the RPO number, of say a transmission (mx3)eg., you can just open the trunk or glove box, see the decal and look for the specific RPO number. If it's there you didn't even have to crawl under the car to note pan shapes, embossed numbers, etc.

.... and it's the best way to authenticate a rare find..!

I'm sure everyone here has heard of some of these RPO codes.... like LS1?? LT1? LS6? Or maybe even Z06..!!

As for MY '05 GT, it has leather and IUP, so how can I tell if it's a loaded Deluxe or a Premium? I did not buy it new. The only way I know it's a Premium is from the build sheet I for got it. It would be nice if we could contact Ford with our VIN and proof of ownership to have them mail the build sheet for our cars (for a small fee, I'm sure)....

In the 2005 brochure, it lists the only differences as the Shaker 500 and leather seats. When I was wanting to order, looking at the prices of the 2005s trying to find a way to save a buck, I did compare costs of a premium vs a deluxe adding the Shaker 500 and leather. The deluxe was more expensive adding those options, if I remember correctly somewhere between $500-1000. That's why I have a premium 2006 now.

Having said that, I would have to believe yours would be a premium too. Why would someone pay more to do a set-up like that, or why would a dealer order it that way and cut into how much their greedy mark-up at the time was? Although stranger things have happened, I would place money yours was a premium if you didn't have the build sheet.

I was gonna say, there are no differences between the premium and deluxe other then interior packaging, so what is there to list? The invoice and window stickers also tell you what package it is, a 130A or a 140A. It was only a couple hundred more for the premium with S500/leather. The V6 can be had in deluxe, and premium with cloth or leather(power seat only available on the premium).

Holy thread revival Batman! I am sure the OP has been through multiple cars since his original post.

Wish I had heated seats with dual power... Not optional in 2005. Yes, I still have mine!
