I recently got 20x8.5 and 20x10" American Racing Torq M.

will the '07 Shelby GT500 brembo's clear it no problem?

Anyone with this info would be very helpful!



im looking at my stock brakes now and it looks like the caliper is so close to the spoke of the wheel....

it's not the size or width of the rims.. you need enough offset for the calipers to clear the spokes.

wish i could be more helpful, but i don't have any numbers on me to tell you for sure what works and what wont

well...it seems like my stock brake caliper barely makes it.

is the GT500 calipers a lot wider?

I believe the answer is that they will not fit. I have the GT500 kit myself and have not installed it yet as wheel choice is a problem. But I have fitted the thing to the car factory 18" bullitt wheels.

To sum it up, the gt500 calipers stick out an additional 1" relitive to the wheel mounting surface when compared to the stock calipers.

So that means, for the gt500 brakes to clear, with your stock brakes, you need to have something on the order of 1.125" of clearance between your spoke face and the caliper now to retain a 1/8" clearance once the gt500 brakes are installed.

High quality spacers are availible. But with your offset, I dont see them looking right. You will have a lot of tire sticking out past the fender.

I might go with 1" spacers on the factory 18" wheels, but I am still trying to decide if the wheels look right spaced out that far.

 

well to put it into perspective,
those running stock 18" rims needed 1" spacers to clear the brembo calipers.
and while spacers are generally safe and reliable, they might not look good with your rims, if the rims naturally sit out a bit.. as the spacers would push them out even more

Brembos are probably one of the thickest calipers on the market :\

you can try the SSBC V8 kit, it is an 8 piston caliper with a 14" rotor

 

It isn't just the offset. The design of the spokes also determine whether or not the wheel will fit.

If you want to keep your current wheel but want a 14" rotor, look at the Baer EradiSpeed +2. It uses the stock calip and spaces it to fit a 14" rotor.

 

As nice as the GT500 kit is. If I cannot get the wheels to look right with spacers I am just upgrading my pads/fluid at some point and staying stock.

On the street, the brakes are actually quite good. I have never felt that they were severely inadaquate. Just not up to porsche/bmw spec.
