I have had my GT for about a week. On Friday night my Engine light came on. I brought it into the dealer this morning to have it checked out. Apparently they have to replace my gas tank. The gas tank vent is not working correctly?

Anyone else had this problem yet?

I had heard a while ago that part of the delay on some gt's was to do with something related to the gas tanks.

That could be the reason why someone was able to "switch off" the "service engine soon" light by fastening the gas cap. Might also relate to the problems some people have with fueling up their car.

My 99 golf engine light came on during the ride home from the dealership. The night I bought the freakin thing. Goes off all the time. I'm convinved there are just to many electronic gadgets in cars these days.

I just got back from the dealership this morning for the same problem.

What they told me:

The code check revealed that the ECU had detected a misfire in the 'B' and 'D' coil packs under deceleration. After consulting with Ford engineering, the tech concluded that there aren't any actual problems and says that Ford is aware of the issue. Ford says they have a new flash program in the works to fix this issue.

My check engine light came on at about 700 miles. Took it to the dealer and in no time mechanics determined it was a bad sensor on the back of the composite intake manifold. Problem was handled a.s.a.p. Part was shipped same day from Dearborn. Arrived within 2 days and replaced in 20 minutes. Running great since.
Intake manifold and sensor is one piece, whole thing had to be replaced.

They told me the same thing, got the light turned off and said they hadnt recieved their flash info yet and if comes back on call and see if they have update from Ford.

Gesh - how much profit is built into the cars to withstand all of this warranty work?!? I mean labor on an a single hour is enough to make a huge dint on profit margin!

On the way home from purchasing the light came on. Took it back to the dealer and he gave a Sport Trac to ride in. Dealer said it was a bad valve spring and would take 3-4 days to get one shipped to him for the repair. No problems since.

I got my car back yesterday. They have replaced the gas tank but warned me that I will have issues with gas pumps prematurely shutting off.

According to the dealer Ford is working on a fit for the gas pump issue.

My light just came on again. Back to the shop. I haven't filled up in several days so I don't think it is my gas cap. I am at 500 miles now.

B) Came on today. Stopped by dealer for a quickie code read, said it was caused by gas cap. Reset codes and off I go.
Interesting; that it has been sitting for 2 days with a little less than 1/2 tank and the light comes on..... Hmmmmmm

Havent had my light come on for gas tank but I had one instance where the darn fuel pump shut off every few ounces..... ARGGGGGGG :bang:

I went to the next pump at the same station...same thing. After three pumps and a grand total of $4 in receipts I went to another station and filled up no problems. Needless to say I was getting scared.

Hope your issue will be resolved bud!!

UGAKarl,

Warranty expense is paid from a warranty account. Part of the price of every car sold goes into a FoMoCo holding account to pay for future warranty expenses. Additionally, FoMoCo pays a reduced shop rate to its dealers when they preform warrany repairs.
