Check out these dyno graphs on a stock internals motor:

How much are aftermarket rods and pistons? Making more power is easy. It's just a matter of what fuel to run.

Ok ive driven both cars and while the cobra isnt as refined as the 5.0, you really cant beat that blower whine! And plus with only a frw minor mods you can easily be as fast if not faster than the new 5.0 stangs. And personally i love the new edge body styling compared to any other mustang body. I would go with the cobra definitely!

But like others have said and something I've learned from retail, if you cant make the emotional connection, it doesn't matter how good the product actually is, it will always be a disappointment.
Well the 5.0 still has that irs but its much mokre refined, tuned much firmer and able to handle curves and bumps without tossin the car around too much. But the cobra will be much cheaper and will be much easier to handle financially. Plus that blower whine is just an eargasm with every push of the pedal (:

The 1999 to 2004 SVT Cobras were the only factory Mustangs fitted with IRS (unless your confusing IRS with SRA) the 2005+ cars are fitted with a 3-link SRA located by a panhard rod.

However there is more to it than that, the S-197s flat blow the older cars out of the water when it comes to chassis rigidity and the front suspension is probably a magnitude in improvement over the previous car's front suspension as the current rear suspension is over its predecessor.

Arguably the only area where the S-197 falls short is maybe overall size and weight with styling being purely subjective.

To be frank, the new chassis is so much better it simply doesn't need as much tire as the prior car did (remeber termi's used a 275mm wide tire) comprared the 255mm wide tire used on the Boss and GT Mustangs. The GT500 also was set to use a 255mm tire all the way around until somebody (I guess at Carroll Shelby's suggestion and to legitimize his claim as having some input) put a 285mm wide tire on the rear with a WTF were they thinking manuever of using 18 x 9.5 rims front and rear which is the widest suggested rim for a 255/45R18 and IIRC the narrowest rim for a 285/40R18 (creating two distinct tire personalities front to rear that has nothing do with the size difference).
