As much as I love Vert's, I chose the hardtop. The thing I found out about vert's here in Arizona is that they're really only useful for four months out of the year (though I was known for driving with the top down in mid-January!). When July hits and its 110 in the shade the last thing I want is to be baking in the sun with little or no wind.

I have to say hardtop, I love the coupe mustangs and no offense to you vert owners I think they don't look good w/ the top up.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Having said that, I look forward to being able to drop the top. As far as road noise and body flex, you should drive one before you compare it to a 20-30 yr old vert. I am sure there is quite a bit of difference (so say the reviews). Also, to the common opinion that they don't look "retro", I don't understand. In 1967, they had a fastback and vert. Why does the new vert look any less retro relative to an older vert as the fastback does relative to the older fastbacks? Just two different types of retro to me.

That's a good point. It doesn't need to be a fastback in order to look retro. All I have to do is take a look at my mom's 66 gt vert.

I'm a Hard top guy...I prefer the lines of a hard top and having a big Shiney surface to wax!

Never liked verts much because Im too tall and sun flickers in eyes... and I dont like the lines of the convertible top

Lots of good points here and the verts are still cool, but to me there is something almost out of proportion (or distracting) when compared to 05 coupes.

I understand why folks love 'em but the 05 vert's just don't "flow" with the classic mustang look. If it were a smooth hardtop vert it might work. To me, ALL of the old Stangs were cool and the choppy silouette of the verts just added to it. But it was a different ERA, the car itself was hot (any type).

I don't know what it is (16-17 inch wheels, smoother curves?) but the 05 vert top is kind of like a bikini... when "up" it breaks-up the flow, the curves, and protects you from the elements... when down it's HOT and looks best in motion!!

After spending a lot of time in both, and how superior the new convertible is to the old one, I'm starting to lean to the convertible in a big way, and with an autmatic transmission no less. And remember, very few Mustangs were hi-po cars, the true 'classic' mustang look is a red convertible with two cheerleaders sitting on top of the back seat

Do those come standard? I didn't see them on the web site when I was building one...

As a former Cobra vert owner, I can attest to the pleasures of open air motoring. I can also attest to the attention a vert can attract, especially from women.

I had no issues with the car in terms of perceived vert issues like road noise and I am sure the new vert is constructed much better than my 99 was.

I think the overall style of the car requires the fastback roof line to look right. I live in N. Indiana where the winters usually stink. Spring, summer and fall do not signify warm temps and sunshine either. I made my decision to go with the hard top vs the vert the morning of the day I placed my order.

My calculations were the following:

Estimated 35% favorable days a year to drive a vert + $5,000 additional cost + body styling made for a fastback roofline = me :drive: a hardtop.

If you're going to race the car (track or 1/4) I'd get the coupe model, but since I don't race and I live in Tampa, FL. , a vert is the only way to go for me.

I like them both, they each have their own outstanding features . Experience has told me I don't like rattles, extra brown spots from baking in the sun or the head colds I used to get from top down driving. The better half has an 03 vert so I get just enough to keep me happy. The 05 has a nice roofline and better rear visibility than previous models. My dealer just got a triple black GT and it is sweet! Vert that is.

Verts are great, but I would have to vote for the hardtop fastback.

Picked up my GT Vert last week. Been driving ever since. The last Vert I drove was over 20 years ago. I am amazed how quiet the 05 is at interstate speeds. When compared to other Verts the roofline is really quite different (has a chopped look). Also like the clean look when the top is down (no boot required). If I were to do it all over, it would be a Vert hands down!!

Vert for sure!

If I was going to go for a Mach1 look, then the couple would have won out, but I was going for the GT500 convertible look; even plan on getting the light/roll bar from CDC. My wife is going to scream when she get it in a few short weeks.

the vert doesnt look nearly as good as the coupe but I gotta say that if I could have any one I wanted I'd have to go w/ the vert. Here in the sunny south its convertble weather almost all year around. my sister just got a 3 seies BMW vert and its so awesome driving with the top down (she gave me convertible fever)!

I've seen three new verts on the road and I think they look great. (One was already with special wheels, tires and by the sound of it, gears and exhaust). If I could, I'd buy one of each.
