Isn't that how it usually works? Each generation goes for X number of years with no changes and then the updated/new model is introduced? I mean, the 1999-2004 Mustang also had no mechanical update even with Camaro and Firebird being around. Heck, the 1999-2004 still had the exactly same interior as the 1994-1998 Mustang.

And with work starting on the updated 2009 Mustang probably in 2007 or 2008 - this was the time when Ford was going through a really hard time and the $$$ probably went to better selling products (F-Series, Fusion, Escape, Focus ....) on which Ford could make much more $$$.
