Which is the Best Generation of Stangs...
Without a doubt, hands down, I can't even believe you are asking this question... the S197...
Sure the classics have that cool and wow factor, but I would imagine (since I've never a classic) that the current Mustang will out perform them in every way and offer tons more creature comforts while doing so.
A classic is a classic... but in terms of performance and creature comforts, doesn't the S197 win by a landslide?

Yeah, but that's not greatness. Greatness is staying power over a long amount of time, breaking new ground, etc.
The originals have always been popular, ever since they were new. They created an entire market segment and helped define an entire generatin.

A sampling of memebers on this board will confirm that alot of people considered the foxbody cars to abberations and not true mustangs. I suspect that the high demand for foxbody cars would be people in thier mid to late 30's - essentially people who grew up with the cars amd remeber when it was 5.0 vs GN vs Z28. The foxbody cars are the mustangs of thier generation.
<---edit--->
Ford even snubbed the Foxbody in thier various TV spots - every model was present save the 79 to 93 cars.

Having had at least one of every generation, I must say I think the 05-present are the best looking and best engineered/built overall...despite what many have said about the weight. It's a great car, reminiscent of the 1st generation cars but much better quality/build.
