Mustang expert advice needed: type of mustang blue!

Hi guys,

I have got a Datsun 280z, which according to the previous owner had a "Mustang blue" paintjob (all he knows about it..). Since there have been so many types of blue across all the generations, I was hoping someone would be able to identify the color! This would allow me to respray a new bumper.

Thanks in advance!

Tough call. The most recent blues from 2007 to the present were Vista Blue, Kona Blue, and Deep Impact Blue. All three are similar, but still different. Your car could be anyone of those, or something else entirely.

Perhaps you can find out which body shop painted it and when, and ask them.

Have any pics of the paint in direct sun? That will help ID it. I was thinking of sonic blue myself, doesn't appear to have as much metal flake as Kona or Deep impact have.

It's impossible to tell by a photograph. Too many variables when the picture was taken. Two different cameras taking the same image will look different from each other. I'd think photo size and number of pixels will matter too.

Windveil blue is another option, but it's definitely not that. Looks most like vista blue to me. Love the car!!!

Is is difficult to know for sure but it sure looks similar (at least) to this Sonic Blue on the Mustang next to mine. It's an '05 and I believe the owner told me this color was available only that one year. It sure was gorgeous!
If you click on the photo a few times it blows it up larger. I just took it yesterday. I wish I saw your post first and I could have taken more angles, and just of his car.

Thanks for all the responses! You guys have some awesome cars . NC07GTCS, that color does indeed resemble it alot! I think my best options to exactly determine the color are:
- meet mustang expert near Berkeley, CA
- go to paint shop
- go to ford dealership

Why didn't you say so? Bring it to Cars and Coffee in Danville next Sunday. I'll let you know what color it is. I was thinking Sonic or Vista also. Vista is darker and doesn't really have any purple in it. Sonic is a nice medium blue, but has kind of a purple tinge in certain lighting.

I'd be willing to vouch for Sonic Blue or Vista Blue. Does it have any purple color to it? If so, then it's Sonic, if not, then most likely Vista.
