69 and 70 have always been my favorite, especially in sportsroof form. They just exuded a look of power and speed better than any other IMO. My least favorite would be the 71 to 73 coupe. To me it just looked way too akward. But I'd still buy one if the price was right.

My mom had a '72 coupe in '81 I think! She later replaced it with a chevette! All I know about it was that it had a 302. I sure would have liked to see it.

I am more inclined to like the early 64-66 coupes...because they are so rediculasly light...so even if you dont have a lot of horsepower, it still feels like you do!! kinda like Elise's...only they handel a lot worse....and stop even worse.

In order:

1. 64 1/2 to 1970
2. 71-73
3. TIE 99-04 79-93
4. 74-78
5. 94-98
6. 05+

My reasoning for the 05's being last is because I have not seen one (save for the Parnelli/Jones edition) roll off the assembly line that really attracts me, not even the GT500

Each of the proceeding years had at least one factory vehicle from Ford that screamed "BUY ME" I have yet to see one for the S197's.

I'm not sure what my next Mustang will be yet. I know it won't be a Subaru WRX anymore since the new design is so hideous.

I'm inclined to lean towards an 03-04 Mach 1 or a modded Fox chassis.

Good news, according to the Wife, the search begins this December!

I confess to being biased, but the 1969 sportsroof model is the best looking of all the factory offerings.
My only other choice for best looking would be a 1967 Shelby GT350 or 500.
As far as best overall you can't beat the advances in technology in the 05 and up models,I just wish they would have put 4 valve in something other than the Shelby.
I'm waiting to see what the "new" Boss Mustangs have when they come out.

I Think They Screwed Up On The 05+, They Should Have Made It A True Fastback, & Given It Hips Liks The 69 & 70. I Have Seen Pictures Of An 05 With A 69 Mach Rear Body Kit Or Maybe It Was Metal, But Omg It Was So Beautiful Word's Just Can Not Describe, Only Pictures Can. Everything Behind The Door's Looked Like A 69 Mach. My Two Favorite Stang's 68 Gt Fastback, & 69 Boss 302. My Mom Had A 70 Boss 302 When I Was 12 Year's Old, She Was Realy Cool About Me Driving The Car & Nailing It Vary Hard Aswell On The Country Road's.

IMO:

1st: Current S197 Stangs. Despite a few weak points, simply the best engineered, best handling and fastest Stangs available. Great styling, great reliability, great value, simply put, no other generation objectively betters it.

Worst: Mustang II. Yeah, there was a lot hitting the fan back then (emissions, gas shortages, new safety mandates), but the Mustang II was little more than a bloated Pinto. Real performance gave way to an onslaught if gaudy, fake scoops, spoilers, tape stripes and just about every other purile performance styling cliche imaginable (that's where I get my loathing for such things to this very day). Sure, it did carry the Mustang name through some dark days, but so did the Camaro and Firebird for those marques in much better fashion.

I think the best looking mustangs were the 69-70 models (70 Mach with a shaker being my favorite), however I agree with Rhumb on which is the best machine and there wll always be a soft spot for the fox body cars, despite thier rapidly degenerating status as less than Mustang than a Mustang II.

1994 revived the classic stang cues and the decade ended with the fastest mustangs of all time we had the 2000 Cobra R the 2003-04 Mach 1 and the 2003-04 Cobra. Definatly a great time to be a mustang fan.

I chose 1979-1993 to be the worst. I know most will choose the 1974-1978 but it wasn't fords fault that the economy went sour. they were good looking cars that retained some mustang style. But the 1979-1993 were just boxes on wheels...fast boxes but they still didn't get your blood pumping with excitment when you look at them like the generations before and the newer gens.
An 87-03 LX 5.0 hatch well done gets my blood pumping a hell of a lot more than any Mustang made prior to 1987. 94-98 are the absolute worst Mustangs. 215HP modular 4.6. lol

Gets your blood pumping more than the Lawman Super Boss, '67 Shelby Super Snake, or anything else like that?

Wow, you're weird. I'd go see a shrink if I were you.

As the owner of a 96GT I have to disagree.

Worst mustang is 79-90 88hp 2.3L. 40% of the hp of your worst mustang + had no styling clues related to any mustang before or after (yeah I said the same thing a year ago in this same thread)
