05 Stang vs old-school Cougar

I went with the Cougar because of the old school heritage. But its like comparing apples to oranges. If I had a choice for a daily driver it would definetley be the 05 Stang

For me it's hard to compare the 05/06 Mustangs to the old muscle cars. Sure the look is similar, but would you really want to trade away all the modren technology that we have for a striped down basic frame with an engine that just had more horsepower? If speed is the yardstick, you can beat any of the old musle cars by bolting on performance mods on the 05/06 mustang. We may wax nostalgic about them now but by modern standards the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s are primitive vehicles. It's like asking which would you rather have a Model T or a 64 mustang.

I have owned Both, purchase New.
First car I Owned.
67 Aqua - e/w Steel Wheels, HiPerform 289, 4 Barrel, 4 Speed Manual, Dual Exhausts( burnt out Mufflers ).
Great on Performance and Cruising, but No Air and a vibation at 65 MPH that wouldn,t go away.
05 Mustang, Best Vehicle I have owned, only one that exceeded all my Expections.
I loved that Cougar, But this car Beats it.
First car I Owned.

I had a '69 Cougar Eliminator for many years and I was one of the regional directors of the CC of A. I've also had a GTO Judge, '68 GTO and have driven tons of other vintage musclecars. There is a world of difference between those old machines and the new Mustangs. If you haven't driven an old musclecar lately, it's easy to forget how primitive they are. Sure they're fast, but they handle poorly, take an insane distance to stop, and typically have a lot of annoying squeaks and rattles. For me it's no contest, I'd get a new Mustang over an old '67 plain-jane Cougar any day of the week. Now if it was a GT-E or other big block, then I'd take the Cougar and put it away someplace safe. And still get the Mustang to drive every day [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

My dad has a 67 and 69 Cougar but he wants my 05 GT. So I of course had to vote for the GT. Now if they made a new Cougar using the 05 Mustang all bets are off!

Stop lights come up REAL FAST with all drum brakes. I would rather spend my money on a new Mustang. The last '60s Mustang I rebuilt was not as fast and even with all new brakes scary to stop at high speed. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eek.gif[/img]
