Explain 422 and 423 order codes?

422 is CA Emissions and 423 is CA Emissions not required, according to the order guide.

I'm in MI where there is no emissions inspection. Does the GT have to be ordered with 422? Or can we select 423?

I noticed that even in non-CA states and in optional states like NJ, the salesperson immediately puts down "CA Emissions". I would prefer not to have a bunch of useless emissions junk.

I think if I remember the ordering guide correctly (PM me for a copy of the guide), Ford recommends that you get the CA emmissions if you border a state which requires CA emmissions. Otherwise, I would do without. Heck, my father would alwaays remove the catalytic converters of his new cars before they started doing testing because they lowered MPG.

Michigan borders Ohio and Indiana, I don't believe they require CA emissions?
I'm going to see if the salesperson can order it w/o 422 or 423.

Oh ****, I forgot about WI. The FSM shows only 2 cats for the GT, so I think we're pretty much "safe".
