I am considering some sort of protection when i get the car home. I have been hearing about all the rusting that is going on and I want to prevent this. At first I was going to clean it and then paint everything with Rustoleum paint, now I am thinking of maybe a coating such as Amylgard instead, has anyone heard of this stuff?
would you recommend this?
Any info will be appreciated...thanks

I haven't hear of Amylgard - but I have read about POR-15 (www.por15.com). I have not used it but I know some people that swear by it. I think there are better products than Rustoleum for your project. Good luck!

PS: I also talk to a body shop you trust for their opinion.

I'm not sure about do-it-yourself products but.....In Canada, we have a place called Krown rust control. They use an oil-based rust protector. Not sure if you guys have Rust Check but its the same thing. They warranty the main parts of your vehicle against rust if you have it done every year.

The oil-based stuff that can "creep" into small areas due to surface tension (i believe) is the best IMO.

The tar-like undercoating doesn't work as well and I've heard it can actually make things worse by trapping water, salt in between the coating and the car.

My former car had it done for 10 years with absolutely no rust. The 05 got rustproofed within the 1 month I bought it. Very happy overall though the rustproofing does collect dirt inside the engine compartment. Nothing a shampoo won't fix.
