Steam Cleaning The Engine?

Has anyone done this? The reason I ask is some detailers have suggested this as an option over spraying chemicals in the engine bay followed by lots of water to rinse.

As Ringo Starr sang .... "No - no - no - no" High pressure water can leach past electrical packing and down into the spark plug wells. This can cause electrical concerns, misfire and coil pack or other component failure. If you do clean the engine bay use something like Simple Green and a low pressure hose.
I have seen too many vehicles that have had their engine bays detailed only to cause problems like the examples I mentioned above.

Agree - I read on this site before getting my car about using Simple Green.. I use a 50% solution in a spray bottle and then with a very gentle spray, rinse off. Do cover the computer box, battery, intake and brake reservoir cap. Works great!

Should the plugs (or anything else for that matter) be covered? Ive seen many photos of fabulous looking engine bays but I'm a little leary of spraying anything in there. Not sure what to do.

wow, you guys sure cover a lot. All I cover is the air filter but now that I put the stock box back in I don't cover anything. I lightly rinse the engine bay and then spray Simple Green full strenght onto everything. I then hose it down. Since I just got my car back from the body shop it was very dirty. I used a power washer but made sure I didn't point it directly at areas like the spark plugs. It cleaned up the brake fluid that leaks from the cap with no issues

I use a shop vac to blow the water that remains from the bay area - it will collect in the plug area but todate - no problems

I don't cover anything either...I just spray it down lightly with the hose and then blow it dry with the blow gun from my air compressor.
