I just use some old rags and a lot of spray detailer. On the plastic stuff, I use some back to black and armour all protectant to finish it off. It just takes a lot of time to really do a good job if it's pretty coated with dust and road grime.

I use Meguiars Safe Degreaser, saturate, let sit a minute then agitate and rinse with a hose. dry engine then use Meguiars hyperdressing to make all the black shine and then for shows I use the Adams In n Out spray to make super glossy.

I do it all the time, engine bay looks like it did the day it rolled off the dealers lot. Well actually I soap it down and then use the rinse function.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions on keeping the engine bay clean. I'v already got a big bottle of Simple Green so all I have to do is dilute it down a bit and have a go at it.

You probably need to dilute the straight stuff about at least 1 to 10 with water and put the dilute stuff in a spray bottle. Maybe even 1 to 20. You don't need much of the straight stuff. It is pretty concentrated. Maybe they have dilution instructions on the bottle.

So your saying to use a Simple Green dilute...then rinse it off with the hose? or perhaps the "spot free rinse" at the car wash? I would think you need to get the soap off of it somehow...

My problem is I live on a gravel road and my bay get really dusty. i have no problem washing often, and the simple green/spot free rinse, seems like a good idea...

No don't rinse it off with a hose. I just spray on the dilute Simple Green. Sometimes I spray it on the engine part or sometimes I just spray it on my rag or small towel. Then I wipe it off with the same towel or rag I use specifically for that all the time. If the Simple Green is dilute enough (say at least 1 to 20) there is no soap reside left behind after you wipe it off. Basically you will be adding a small amount of concentrated Simple Green into a spray bottle and then filling up the spray bottle with water. If your engine bay is really dirty, you might have to use another method. But for maintaining your engine bay like new this method works great. Just look at my previous pics.
