Repairing a fellow forum Member's badly swirled hood

We had a recent event here:
Steeda's Spring Dyno Day

I met some good people and made some friends, I was approached by a local forum member telling me that he used some VERY aggressive compound to on his brand new hood, here is my attempt + success to fix it.

Here are some before Pics:

Even with low lighting you can see how swirled and scratched up the clearcoat is here:

Another shot, after the hood was cleaned, note the depth of the markings under low light:

Note the depth of the monkey sitting in the back:

After several passes using my Porter Cable 7424XP + Meg's 105 + Lake Country Orange Cutting Pad
Rubbed the compound in at 4.5 Speed and then worked it slowly at 5.5 Speed.

Here are some after shots:

Simple how little it takes to remove these kinda things.

Good job getting the major damage cleared up.

What did you follow M105 up with?

Looks very good.

He probably followed up with meguiars 205 finishing polish which is usually the case when using 105. I'm a big fan of meguiars products. I just picked up their show car glaze yesterday after work. Going to give my mustang a nice detail tonight!

Looks good. I hope you told him to stop using whatever compound he used in the first place

I love the Meg's show car glaze. I use it quite a bit but it's a pain sometimes. I apply it by hand though. I put Meg's yellow over it and then buff it out to awesomeness.

Swirl Removal

Toxix,

Thanks for posting this.

I have a porter cable and some pads that are getting old and need to be replaced. Have tried to remove swirls from my 2011 Mustang that were there from previous owner. Got some out however still have more.

Assume that my pads are old and just not "cutting it" any more. I do clean them after using to ensure they are not just introducing more swirls.

I see where you used Lake County pad in Orange and got a great result. Did you buy these local in South FL or ordered them on line.

Any input would be appreciated.

Regards,
Jim
