Check the Car Care section, there's a bunch of threads in there about engine cleaning.

when i had my 03 v6, in october and april I'd use Greased Lightening degreaser (very good stuff) - a spray foam on a cold engine. let it sit for 15 mins and come back and carefully hose down your engine (keep away from fuse box and fans) and it came out really well......

I just wash it every other week during a normal wash. Nothing special, just the car wash soap after I've done the rest of the car and the jambs.

That is the best way period. If you give it a good wiping down each week after washing it will keep it looking great.

Once a week works.
And a really big tooth brush helps.

first there is at least one thread on this in the detailing section of these forums

2nd real quick:
-wrap up/tape up any and all electrical /air parts that you do not want to get wet; fuse box, altenator, airbox, etc.
-saturate the engine with Meguiars Safe Degreaser (properly diluted)
-agitate any "problem" areas with a brush
-let sit for 5 minutes or so
-rinse with water hose
-remove wrap/tape
-saturate the entire engine bay (metal, plastic), minus the painted sidewalls, with Meguiars Hyper Dressing (properly diluted)
-close hood, your done.

I use a damp then dry cloth and armor all the hoses once a week. 15 minutes tops. Engine looks like it did when I picked it up a year and 12000 miles ago.

What would you say is the best dilution for Safe Degreaser and Hyper Dressing?

I use Armor All on the plastics, a tire shine on the hoses, and a damp cloth to clean up everything else. It's not perfect, but it's got 120k on the odometer, and its my daily driver; so for that, it looks great.
