Several years ago Ford had plans for a new 5.0 liter engine that we were assuming would end up in the new Mustang. Has anyone heard if this new engine will be headed for one of the new speciality Mustangs?

One member reported that he heard the BOSS was coming back with a non supercharged 5.4 liter engine after the release of the Shelby.

I thinkk they already have a 5.0 cammer motor that is a dohc mod motor. You can buy it through frpp, but they havent put it in anything production.

Here is alink to it http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_...rtKeyField=6787

the 5.0 cammer isn't the same as an older model 5.0, it is a stroked 4.6 i think. It'd be nice to have a Boss, i think that it'd be 5.8 liters(351)

You maybe right, I'm just trying to read some of Ford's tea leaves.

1-In interviews the new SVT guru said that some speciality Mustangs will follow the release of the Shelby.

2-blueovalnews about two or three years ago had a Ford document that showed the new 5.0 being released around this timeframe.

I only get to buy a new car at 4-5 year intervals and because Ford always keeps a tight lid on new releases it is hard to plan on the next purchase. I purchased a 95 Cobra then the cammers came out. Then I bought a 2000 Spring Feature and it has been a good car. The next pony is going to be the last one that gets passed along to the kids some day. I want it to be a good one!!!

Actually the 5.0 engine rumour was a SOHC for the GT, and DOHC for the Cobra.
It was to be in the 2004.5 (now 05) mustang

Even earlier reports were a 3.0 either/or 4.0 (engine choices in the v6)
and they were also looking at 4.6 either/or 4.9 for the GT
with a 5.0 DOHC for the Cobra
for the 2003 (S197) mustang.
I still have the document that was on BON at the time...

The 5.0 in the FR500 in 99 was a spray-bored 4.6 DOHC @ 400hp (I think that was the power) and it was canned....

As of right now, there would be NO reason other than people who like to say 5-oh...to have a 5 litre.
We have a more than capable 4.6 mod motor right now, with a 5.4L that is larger and more powerful than the 5.0 ever was....

If anything..you'd see the 5.4...not a 5.7
Ford doesn't have a 5.7 Litre engine (that was the old LS1/LS6)
The new LS2 is 6.0L and the LS7 is 7.0L

The only thing I'd love to see from the old 5.0..was its physical size...thats about it.

I love the old 5.0 pushrod cars. Those motors were incredible, and they sounded AWESOME
