Speeding tickets might generate massive amounts of revenue. However, if you start pulling people over aggressively for unsafe driving, ie tailgating, unsafe lane changes, aggressive driving I believe you could compensate for the lack of speeding tickets, and, make people safer drivers as a result, not just drivers who go 60mph and change lanes without looking and veer into traffic, etc.

Lots of People don't pay attention to what they are doing while driving. Lowering the speed limit it seems to just make for a longer, more boring trip and attention deficet kicks in. They start to talk on the phone more, read the paper, look for Cd's to change etc....My .02

Yea I agree with ya, I mean we do need some limits but these days cops just go overboard. Sure we do need them in nieghborhoods but I think freeways can be limit free.

In perfect conditions, higher speeds may not be so much of a problem, but when it starts raining, and people dont slow down, that is a lot of trouble begging to be had. I hate driving on an interstate when it is raining really hard, and i'm squinting, trying to hold a reasonable 60mph the best I can, hydroplaining, the whole 9 yards, and then a huge SUV goes zooming buy doing about 80 and almost blows me off the road. It scares me to death!!

Get rid of the speed limits on highways. Keep them most everywhere else, 25mph max in neighborhoods with stiffer enforcement. Also, it should be a much stiffer penalty for impeding the flow of traffic (ie, driving slow in the left lane). On well maintained highways made for getting people from point A to point B quickly, the speed limits are unnecessary outside of major cities.

In Akron, OH, they've began using radar camera's (big controversy and too much detail to get in to here). But the main story is, they've given $250 tickets for 1 (one) mph over the limit. Now, people are staring at their spedometers instead of watching for children playing or crossing the street. Also, there's more congestion as people are forced to drive slower, increasing the likelyhood of accidents.

The only way to realistically get rid of the speed limit on North American highways would be to do it Autobahn style. Which still would be useless in urban areas.

The only way to realistically get rid of the speed limit on North American highways would be to increase the drivers' IQ. The fountain of youth stands a better chance of being found before that ever happens.
