Wow. Some companies really miss the mark.
welcome back Steve !!! That sucks about your bike. There is nothing worse than electrical problems, but it sounds like you already know what to do to fix it. Me, I stay far away from wiring/electrical/switches...etc.

Yes, I got the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch kit (supports up to 500 lb-ft of torque). So it's a new pressure plate, clutch, and throw-out bearing. Also got a new speedo cable today because the old one had a small slice in it and it was weeping tranny fluid. Now's the time to change it.
It will all be installed next Saturday.

I asked the transmission shop for a recommendation of fluid... either regular or synthetic... and if synthetic, which brand. He said to use regular old automatic transmission fluid because of the carbon fiber rings. They've been in business since 1949 and the rep has been there for 12 years - he said if it was his transmission, that's what he would use.
Guess that's what I'll do, then.

Tom, which tranny did you just get?

Well, that sure did take you a long time to type that tiny sentence.
It's the same transmission that came out of the car - a World Class T5, with the stronger gear set that was introduced in 1990.
Doing some research for me? I'm sure you'll find that even regular transmission fluid is better than the cat urine I was planning on using.

Be quiet wise guy.

T5, got it.

Yes, I am.

Something about a 068 gear set (stronger) and not the 052 gear set (weaker). I guess this is the nickle content mentioned below in the link. The numbers are from what the rep told me over the phone if I remember correctly.
Look at the paragraph that starts out "1990 to 1993...":
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/349.shtml
I now have the WC (World Class) with the stronger 3.35 gear set and the carbon fiber synchros, which should be better than the WC 1989 transmission that was in there.

I'm finding the same thing...
The T5 is a later, stronger, and much more popular transmission, with variants being used by Ford, GM, and Chrysler. The T-5 shift pattern is:
1 3 5
2 4 R
Note that not all T5's are the same.
There are weaker versions with shorter gear ratios used with 4 cylnder engines and stronger V8 versions with
taller gear ratios.
For instance, Ford 4 cylinder spec T5's may have a first gear ratio of 4.05 and an overdrive ratio of 0.81 while a V8 spec tranny may have a 2.95 first and 0.63 overdrive.
Some V8 spec T5's are stronger than others, with early V8 spec Ford T5's rated at 265 ft-lbs and the latest aftermarket version rated at 330 ft-lbs.
There are two basic kinds of T5's: Non World Class (NWC) and World Class (WC).
The first T5 was non-world class.
As far as the Ford V8 applications go, Ford used them in 1983 and 1984 only.
The NWC T5's used 70W gear oil and were rated at 265 ft-lbs with 2.95:1 first gear and 0.68:1 5th.
From 1985 on up, Ford used WC T5's in V8 applications.
The basic Ford V8 WC had a 3.35:1 1st gear and 0.68:1 overdrive.
Needle bearings were installed under each gear and tapered bearings replaced the bronze thrust washers.
Fiber lined steel rings main shaft synchros were added and later replaced by carbon fiber (except 5th which remained bronze).
Torque rating was 300 ft-lbs.
There was also a 1993 Cobra version rated at 310 ft-lbs as well as Ford Motorsport catalog X and Z code versions rated at 330 ft-lbs.
The X and Z codes had 2.95:1 1st and 0.63:1 5th. All World Class T-5 use ATF lube.

Sounds like everything that I'm reading. I could have bought the Z-Code T5 from Summit Racing for $1400.
It comes with a short-throw shifter (but I already have one).
It also comes with a steel front throw-out bearing retainer (but the place I bought it from puts steel retainers on all their rebuilds).
It comes with hardened gears (but I got those, too).
So, I think I got a good trans for 1/2 the price.
What makes the Z-Code jump to 330 ft-lbs, I'm not sure.
I don't understand the entire "300 ft-lb torque rating". The car from the factory was rated at 225 HP / 300 TQ. So you put one aftermarket part on and you've exceeded the transmission's torque rating?
Maybe that rating is across the board for every gear... so, say in 5th gear it can only handle 300 ft-lb of torque, but in 4th where it's direct drive it can handle 500 ft-lbs? Or is it an average of what it can handle in every gear?
Guys are using the non Z-Code WC with tons of HP and TQ.

I called him at 1:10 pm local and got right thru!
I told him when he answered that I wanted to order that Bama Chips smile... It's a bargin! Only $549 and it comes with an Xcal2, JLT intake and 3 tunes... All I have to pay for them is shipping and handling.
