Hey maybe next time Bill.....
I'll have to get a picture of us standing in front of your car for the boys back home....you are some what of a celibrity at HPE
(Hawaii Performance Mustangs)

There were tons of beautifull cars there for sure but this one just killed me....The blue and white combo just pops and the wheel/tire combo fits the wheelwell just right....made me wish I had bought a blue one instead....

Thanks....not much to tell really....stock rims and tires from the tire rack....I typically use a little larger tire on the rear 285/40/18 and 255/45/18 front and carefully measure the distance to the fender well and make or buy spacers that get the wheels to sit just right and add just a slight rake to the body.....nothing fancy but it has a huge impact on how the car is perceived. The rest is just a mustang GT with plastic stripes and shiny mufflers.

So have you had any problems running such a big tire on the stock rim??

First time I've seen 285's on those rims. Real cool I heard 275's where max, guess you proved that wrong

I spent years getting around rules in racing.
They will typically limit either the rim or tire width so you find yourself doing all kinds or crazy things to gain an advantage.

Like a 7" tire rule....use a 10" wide rim to spread the tread out....or a 7" rim rule....use a 10" tire with cantilevered sidewalls from a formula car to get more rubber on the road....there is always a way around everything.

The first thing I say when somebody tells me "You can't do that" is...WHY NOT...?

They usually don't have a great answer...I love those guys cause they are usually the easiest to beat.

I appreciate the compliments. We liked your car too. Very well done The 285's on the stock bullitts really has our attention. In fact I went to the Torq Thrust because I didn't or had heard that you couldn't put 285's on the stock rim.

I was a little slow on Saturday and forgot that you had posted up about the show, otherwise I would have introduced myself. D'oh

Awesome.
: nanadance:

Glad to hear Step 1 is complete. I'm sure the Swap at Swanson will go quick. (knock on wood.) Any estimate from Swanson as to how long it will take them?

Congrats Bill, hopefully this stage will go much quicker!

It would be interesting to see pics of the carnage inside of your old motor!

I would not say you can't do that. Of course you can.
All I would like to add is that it is not recommended to put 285s on that narrow a rim.
You are making an educated decision and you are willing to bet that you personally will not have a problem. That's fine.
The problem lies with people trying to emulate your decision thinking that it is a recommended practice and totally safe.
While nothing is totally safe in this world we must remember that just because one person does something and it works does not mean that it is perfectly safe.
BTW it looks very nice.

Last time I asked Danny, he mentioned 1 1/2 weeks, assuming the heads are good.

I'll plan on stopping by the shop as often as I can to take pics of the progress.

Thanks all.
That's one giant monkey off my back, just one left to shake off!

Here's some data they gave me with the motor..

Greek to me, but Danny wants to see this data.

One thing that I'm not 100% with is that MMR gave me a 'break-in' procedure of;
  • Oil change at 400 miles
  • Keep rpm's below 4500
  • No full throttle/boost until 400 miles (and tune verified)
  • No synthetic oil until 6000 miles
6000 miles? I think that's old school oil thinking.

Sounds reasonable, Saleen had similar requirements, except they wanted me to change the dino oil after 500 miles with synthetic oil.

Hopefully you'll be on the road before the end of this month!!

Sounds good, Bill! The synthetic at 6000 miles does sound very old school. Like George said, after 500 would be fine... but I guess you have to follow their procedure not to void a warranty?

I guess you're gonna actually have to DRIVE your car now, just so you can break the engine in.... 400 miles to first oil change will be like, what...... 2010?

Believe me Tom, I'll hit mark within a couple weeks.

Tom1- If Swanson's agrees, I'll run the factory 5W20 Motorcraft semi-syn for the first 2 oil changes (400-500 & 750-1000) then switch over to Mobil 1.
