+1. I have seen the cam style in person and am not fond of them. The wired ones look much better IMO.

I am prolly one of the few who doesn't like hood pins.Plus i would be paranoid that the lanard would scratch the paint somehow

 

I feel the same way about the laynards scratching, or the pins scratching the bumper when not pinned (ie-working on car)

When you put up the hood, you can re-pin them so they aren't laying on the bumper.

I've wanted them too off and on... I'll see how they turn out on Bill's car, first!

Not sure if you missed this, Bill... but are you going to buy a radiator cover, or modify yours?

 

From my initial research, the pin kit offered by FRPP isn't quite compatible with our S197's. The pins are too short by about 1/4". That's when locating them on the shroud. Some have located these pins further outboard to make it work.

The 2 (lanyard type) pin kits that seem to work pretty good are the ones from Shelby (the ones I linked earlier) and the one installed on the Saleen/PJ, which I'm guessing is a Saleen kit.

I saw one pic of a shroud modified with a Dremel and it didn't look so good. The ones offered by Shelby and the one I've seen on the PJ looked as if they're stamped out for a much cleaner look.

The question whether the top plate will interfere with my stripes is still a concern.

 

I insist on the CDC fake pins. If anyones says anything you can tell them there's no point in getting real hood pins as the stock hood is more than secure with just the factory latch. Or just critque they're fake scoops or some other non functional mod they have. If I like how your hood pins turn out I'll be getting the stick on's regardless of what anyone says.

I don't understand the fuss. Unless you have a aftermarket hood the hood pins are purely cosmetic. Why bother drilling more holes on your car. Then on top of that you'll have those ugly pins sticking out of your rad cover when you pop the hood. Oh well agree to disagree.

 

There's been instances from members here in TMS where the factory hood started to flutter above 85 mph. True, the hood bumper stops may have needed some adjusting, but a set of hood pins would've securely kept that hood down.
That's the 'function' part of them besides the look.

I really don't mind the look of the pins sticking up through the radiator cover as long as the cut is clean and OEM looking, and not some hack job.

On the stickies, if I already had a bunch of fake stuff (no offense to anyone.. it's all a matter of preference ), I wouldn't think twice about sticking a set of pins on the hood. I just see them in the same category as blocked off hood scoops and the like.

 

I, of all people here, should have hood pins. In 1969-70 they had them... and they weren't fake:



And look what I just found out. In 1970 they didn't have the wires. Like Bill, I thought about getting the kind without the lanyards, and now I have even more of a reason to get that kind:

I'm leaning toward the PJ style cable type. I've read that the Fang twist type requires a 2" hole to be drilled in the hood.

 

Yes, they are the twist lock cam style.

Could you use a hole saw to make that cutout. That is def a hack job, at least file/sand the edges to a smooth edge.
