My first close call, tell us yours.
I was tooling from one light to another at high acceleration and a lady turned in front of me against a red turning light. She hit the brakes, I hit the brakes. As I was sliding in a straight line and so was she we would have hit each other. But I left the breaks up shortly before hitting her so that my front wheels could grab and pull my car to the right. She missed me by 2 inches!
This is an argument for drum brakes. I know, technology waits for no one!
(edited:Sarcasm, because the abs worked too well.)

Man, drum brakes are the worst! Especially 4 wheel drums with no power assist--my first mustang, years ago.
All of the times I almost died in that car due to sh*tty braking. . . .
The GT isn't much better--discs and drums, but no power yet. I guess I'm calmer now that I'm older and don't have that many close calls. Still, I can get the ol' girl stopped on a dime if need be. . .

I was being sarcastic about technology. We all love it, I'm sure.
I meant ABS was the thing that kept me going straight. Had I not left off the brakes, we would have hit each other because the cars were both skidding in a straight line.
She was happier than me because she was blowing through a red light, but when we stopped only a few inches apart, I was pretty impressed with the stopping power of the Mustang.
This is the second time I have really had to hit the brakes on this car, and it really stops well.

Those English lanes can be dangerous though!

One of the most intertaining experiences I ever had was visiting my sister in the south of England and borrowing her old Mini so my then-girlfriend and I could visit Bathe. Roundabouts in a tiny little car---what a hoot!
That car felt like you needed to drag a foot to stop it, but it was still a blast to drive.

I was digging through some old stuff when I remembered this one. I know you where being sarcastic, but you said:
The point of the ABS is to keep the front wheels turning so they WON'T slide, and you CAN turn. If your car was indeed sliding, and you could not turn, I would say there is something wrong with your ABS.

I forget that the brakes work so good. I love ABS. At a certain point I remembered to turn the car, but I also let up on the brake. Had I not, we would have hit each other. At the end I needed some speed in turning to avoid her. These events happen in slow motion, in the mind.
I had very little time to react. She turned against a red without looking at me at all. You would have thought that she would have heard my Bassani pipes.
This is an argument for a bright Red car though.
Good tires and brakes saved me.
When it was over, I loved how my car stopped, but I was amazed how I froze until the last second and turned the wheel. I think that I turned the wheel and let up on the brake out of reflex. As it turned out, I think that was what saved a fender bender.
