Interesting observation about badging

I'm new to mustangs (just bought an 05 GT)
And new to car forums in general.

After reading through a few forums the last couple days
I've noticed something "odd"

It appears that no one has a problem with adding
Shelby wheels, spoilers, hoods, etc... To their GT's

But most seem to have a problem adding the Shelby badges???
I'm not really understanding what's going on with that.

I personally love everything about this mustang except the GT badges.
I'm thinking about adding the GT500 cobras or the Tri-bar ponies
(Depending if I can make a deal on some GT500 wheels here locally.)

When one adds parts like wheels and spoilers, it is a simple statement of liking those parts. Adding the badges appears as if one is attempting to identify their car as one that it is not. And this is mostly looked down on.....however, it is your ride, do as you feel is right.

I see...
I'm not really into "mods" so I don't see how changing wheels and adding some snakes to an otherwise stock GT is really attempting to pass my car off as a shelby...

Thanks for the info..

Besides attempting to look like a Shelby, why else would you put a snake on the side? How about a dog, cat, or bird?

Most people use Shelby wheels and parts as a alternative as most are cheaper than aftermarket, ie gt500 axle backs rather than borla.

Changing the wheels isn't the problem. Changing the badges is.
You don't look at the wheels on a Mustang to determine what model it is, you look at the badge. If someone changes the badge on their car, they want others to think they have a nicer car than they actually do. Sometimes people put V6 badges on their sleepers.

IMO fake badges is something you DONT do. Honestly I think it disgust a lot of mustang owners. If you don't like your GT badges. Add some 4.6L badges instead or take em completely off.

Because like other show "appreciation" for the hoods, wheels, spoilers..
I like the snakes! (But I like the pony's too!) and they may be more colorful on a mineral grey car.

I "get it" but unfortunately im a bit too old to really care about such nonsense.
Lol ......

Hell you could even paint them. They look MUCH better painted. I had an 07 GT that I had the GT emblems painted black. ..mine was silver (the car) and it looked awesome!

You're using common sense. Common sense and forums are like a square peg in a round hole.

Just didnt understand the difference on why it's generally ok to change everything on the GT to look like a Shelby (except the badges??)

After reading some of the other sections some people change items for performance

Gt500 exhaust for the sound
Gt500 spoiler for downforce
The wheels for weight or tire size
Cobra jet grille for airflow
Etc.

Compared to emblems which is only for looks and differentiating models

Or at least thats how i see it anyways...

but if you like the emblems go for it.

100% agree. Fake is fake. I have the same disdain for all the fake Chevy SS cars out there. Pretending you have a true SS is really lame when you think about it.

Been a while since I posted this...

Most ppl hate being at a car show and having thos scenario go down.

You look over and see a clean mustang pull in with snakes on the side. You get excited thinking a real termi just pulled into the lot. Walk over as he pops the hood and you see the anorexic 2v sitting underneath. (At that point I instantly wanna dis the guy for what trick he just played on me) as you sit there in disgust a teen walks up and says to the owner "clean cobra man! Whats all done to it?" And the owner doesnt even correct him and say its a gt...

Kinda like walking into a bar and seing this hot chick. You sit next to here and start a conversation. Shes interested . You sit and chat a while. Buy a couple drinks. Then its time to go home. You take her to your place for a good time. Get in the bedroom and find out shes really a he as she drops her pants.

Its a false turn on. Thats why ppl hate it. Posing. Thats what it is.

I nominate as the best post of the year. Not only funny but well said!

Well......I have been giving this ALOT of thought.
The difference here is that I honestly could care less about what
Another person does to their car (unless my neighbor decides to run a straight exhaust on his car and fire it up at 4am!).

Nothing anyone does to their car "disgusts" me?
I may not personally like it, but I really could care less, and it doesn't bother me in the least! (And that's probably the way it should be!)
And why I couldn't understand the thinking behind it.

In the end, I'll probably try both and see what looks best to me.

Its not all about if you like it or not.. its also about what attitudes and comments you will receive towards your car. But that probably dont matter to you either.... I personally like getting comments and not being bashed for false advertisement.

You think us mustang guys are crazy... go to the army and try to "upgrade" your badge from Private to Sargeant and use the "I like the way it looks" excuse.
