Typically my gas milage has been around 16-18, mostly because I drive like a retard and stomp the gas and rev high. Today I drove to work using the highest possible gears to keep moving. According to the display I drove 22 miles using 0.9 gallons, giving me 23.0 MPG. About 19 of that 22 miles is highway and I was driving about 80.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I drive hard, but with the price of gas now, I took it easy home last night and to work today. I was getting around 17.4 already I'm getting closer to 19.7 My drive to work is only 10 miles and no highway, so I can't get really higher numbers. If you cruise the highway in 5th, at around 70-75, you should see like 23-25 mpg!

Its not about driving in the highest possible gearing. Its about maintaing the lowest RPM, for the lowest amount of time. That can include coasting to stops, coastings down long hills. Shutting car off at traffic jams or long lights. I was able to achive 37+ miles a gallon in my 2000 Focus ZX3, city and highway combined. EPA estimates it at 35mpg highway only.

yeah that's what i mean, keep the rpms as low as possible

coast down all hills (use clutch) and don't downshift

I went about 150 miles the Tuesday and tested out my GT (Auto) as far as how high could I get my MPGs.

63 mph, cruise control on, one stop, no A/C - 30.8 MPG
63 mph, cruise control on, one stop, A/C on - 27.8 MPG

Awesome mileage if I keep the cruise control on at 63 mph. Not as fun, but at $3.00 per gallon and rising, it is becoming worth it

I took a two hour trip to Ohio and drove VERY conservatively (no throttle mashing) and got 27.5 mpg on the way there and 27.2 on the way back...

I've been setting my cruise control at about 70 mph and leaving the windows up. The A/C uses less hp than the drag caused by leaving the windows open.

This car is more than capable of getting great mileage... coasting whenever possible is one of the best ways to save some gas.

I try to shift at the reccomended speeds in the owners manual for maximum mileage... although it takes some excitement away, I always open it up every once in a while.. just to balance things out.
I managed 22MPG on the last tank

Yah, I've definately gotten good milage for short periods. I can't seem to stick with it though. A lot of the fun value is gone when I'm granny shifting...

I'm pleasantly surprised by the highway mpg that everyone is getting while taking it easy. I'm surprised because the highway EPA rating for the GT is 25, so I am surprised when someone gets 27 to 30 mpg on the highway.

I dunno, for me it's very difficult to drive this car in a very conservative way. Not sure if it's the feel of the car, the sounds, the people staring, the feeling you get while driving it or a combination of all of the above. I'm not saying I bury it at every moment possible, but I'm not shifting at 2 grand either. I only work 3 miles from work and my miserable 15.3 showing on the MPG computer doesn't want to seem to move up too much. I'm sure it's a combination of the lack of highway run and my semi-judicious foot causing it.

This past weekend, I averaged 25.2 for about 400 miles with the top down. I kept it under 60 due to Labor Day speed traps. A Volvo S80 drove by doing 70+, and I passed him about 15 minutes later--he was sitting on the side of the road next to one of those cars with the flashing blue lights!

yeah, we took my wifes 04GT out of town this weekend. i set the cruise at 65 and never took it off. pushed the clutch in whenever possible. we drove 150 miles on 4.8 gallons!
hey mark thats funny. whats even better is when they give you a pissed off look and give you the finger and then you pass them 10 minutes later on I85 and honk and wave!

On the V6's, the max tire pressure is 44 psi. The door sill says 35. I took the pressure up to 39 psi, dropped in a K&N Filter, started driving it easier (auto tranny), and staying at no more than 5 over the limit (max of 75). I'm pulling down 24.0 with no AC and 95% Highway miles.

Not sure how you guys are getting above that with a GT, but hats off to ya.

If I could keep it below 70mph on the highway, I'd probably do better. My commute is a city/higway combo and over the last month I pull somewhere between 17-22mpg.
