Help! New manifold interferes with distributor
Help! New manifold interferes with distributor
I just bought a new Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold for my 71 351W and I had to turn the distributor counter clockwise about an inch so the manifold would fit because the clip was getting in the way, obviously now I can't turn the distributor back to it's original spot and the car won't idle right. What can I do to fix this? I'm almost positive that I'll have to buy a new distributor (taller) I'm just looking for advice,
Can't you just:
0) Make a note as to which spark plug wire the rotor is pointed at.
1) Remove the cap
2) Remove the retaining bolt
3) Pull the distributor up far enough to disengage the drive gear
4) Rotate the distributor into it's optimum position while holding the rotor so that it keeps pointing in the same general direction
5) Push the distributor down so that the drive gear re-engages
6) Move the spark plug wires around the cap so that the correct wire is pointed at by the rotor.
7) Start the engine and adjust your timing.

I would say move the distributor 1 tooth off so you can still get your adjustment.
