I love how the displacement discussion always turns into a EDIT contest instead of realizing that both sides (modern 4 bangers & v8's) have advantages.
VTEC (Honda's name for variable valve timing) shouldn't be a fad. It's good technology. It provides 1 cam for a low rpm range providing good fuel economy and another for the higher rpms (where the first cam starts to drop off) to provide more power. It would be cool to see this in all engines. VTEC is similar in principle to a 4 bbl carburetor - normally you use only 2 bbl, but when you jump on the throttle, you use all 4.
Displacement gives you torque & hp that can't really be obtained with a small engine.
A 100hp/L engine is more efficient than a 70hp/L engine.
