Gotta be a stick. I have a '95 cobalt blue one owner with 210K mi and the original clutch and tranny and not always driven gently. Hopefully my Legend Lime '05 GT will be half as good.

Unfortunately I need a automatic  Although my best friend and my dad said they'd teach me how to drive a manual, my mother won't allow it. BLAH!!

TWO things about Mustangs (and all sports cars in general). ALWAYS get the V-8 and ALWAYS get the stick. Otherwise buy a Honda!

uh, no. Mustang V6's are great. Don't disparage them.

I do agree with your manual comment though...

Will this thread never die? The argument never will, that's for sure.

IManual would be better cause
1 Automatics are boring unless you drive like nonstop everyday in traffic or something.
2Manual is simply cooler
3Manual also shaves a couple of seconds off 0 to 60 times.
4Getting an automatic would almost defeat the purpose of getting a car like a mustang.

Greetings to all B)

I have read that the 5R55S 5-speed auto is a vast improvement over
previous Mustang autos...that it is a "smart" transmission that will "learn"
the habits of the driver and shift accordingly.

Perhaps 2005 GT auto drivers could comment on their experience?

I drove my 93 5.0 LX with the T-5 and had a lot of fun, but am now
considering the new 5R55S auto

Edit: Drove both, the auto is great, the manual more fun for me

Edit again: Drove the auto again without the salesman in back
This new auto tranny is not a "slushbox" in any way...you can shift
to a gear when you want to, either softly or firmly depending on
the amount of throttle you put in....going with the auto!

I purchased my 2005 GT with the manual transmission and I've noticed that the read end has more slack than my 1995 Mustang. The 2005 slaps, clunks, and generally makes more noise when I drive it in "Grandma Mode". It definately hauls the mail and is very tight when I get on the gas, so I am not too worried. I was just wondering if any other 2005 GT owners have experienced similar noises.

I have an 05 GT (screaming yellow) and have experienced the same clunking sounds thru the grandma gears. I was going to have them check it out when I take it in for it's first service. But maybe it's normal. I also have a 95 V-6 with a stick that isn't as clunky

I prefer a C4 in a vintage Mustang (especially when it's a daily driver like mine is). But if I were to purchase an '05 - I'd have to go with the stick.

B) Shifting is cool B)
Autos are for girls, real men drive standard. And remember that a shifter is called standard because for 80 years or so, it was the majority of all cars made. Automatics are really only common since the 1970s. I do not know if they are the majority yet.

Just like I "dial" my phone...
I will drive a standard....

I'm a chick & I LOVE drivin' a stick!! (he he, I made a rhyme)

Manual is the only way to go in a Stang!!!!

- Lori
A women who drives standard :headbang:

On a side note, I've met quite a few and I'd have to say it's a major turn-on for me. I must be a car guy.

I bought an Automatic so wife could drive it. It is hand down the Best auto I have ever driven. I admit that the stick would be more fun, but in bumper to bumper Atlanta traffice, the auto makes more sense for me as well. As you get older, the appeal of the stick fades a little ( I said a little... )

P.S. Just to clarify one point.... The Mustang is a Muscle car, not a sports car.
More muscle cars have been built with autos that sticks.... Look it up...

Is your current Mustang an auto or a manual? If you're getting an '05, answer with which option you'll choose on that car.

I won't be getting a new car until spring, but it's gotta' be a manual even if it's three on the tree!!!
