B) Shifting is cool B)
Autos are for girls, real men drive standard. And remember that a shifter is called standard because for 80 years or so, it was the majority of all cars made. Automatics are really only common since the 1970s. I do not know if they are the majority yet.

Just like I "dial" my phone...
I will drive a standard....
I'm a chick & I LOVE drivin' a stick!! (he he, I made a rhyme)

Manual is the only way to go in a Stang!!!!

yeah even on a hill i dont roll.
Say im on a hill stopped. Im on the brake let go of clutch while on brake then gas and no roll back. In real its a normal fast process. It doesnt matter anyway. Rolling slightly isnt a bad thing, unless you have a tailgater on heavy traffic on a hill. I just wouldnt want to be behind you.
I dont have to roll to prove I have a stick. Its a bit noobish IMO.
:bang: Man, you guys have to reread my post. I never said I always roll, I was trying to say that people roll on purpose and look like idiots.

Trust me, I'm very experienced in driving standard and NEVER roll.

And who are YOU calling a Noob?

Though I haven't seen you drive, I'd be willing to bet I could outshift you anyday. Downshifting into curves, accelerating through the apex, double shifting...etc...you name it, I can do it.

And IMO, you need to read people's posts more carefully and lose the attitude. [/b][/quote]
1) I wasnt calling you a noob. I was calling rolls that.
2) I don,t know how you drive either . Talk is cheap :notnice: .
3) If you read it in a different tone it doesnt sound like an attitude. I bet you think this is in one too. I'm actually mellow and easy right now. I guess I need to use more of them smileys.
I dont feel like getting in no arguments online. That is kinda loserish.
Regardless Manual is 1!

No hard feelings eh Dan, and anyone "offended" by any chance.

I agree, More smilies next time please. I got pissed because I though the sentence "I dont have to roll to prove I have a stick. Its a bit noobish IMO." was directed at me. From what you're saying I misunderstood. Since you didn't laugh at my joke I assumed you took me literally (ie. that I show off by rolling back and forth like an idiot) when infact I was just kidding.

I'm having one of those days where I feel like taking the world on (enough people **** you off and it happens)

But obviously I wasn't the only one who misunderstood your comments as "atom777" interpreted them the same way.

Anyway, everyone is bound to have a few scrapes now and again. I don't take anything personally. Even if you meant it, I'd say my piece and forgettaboutit. No hard feelings.

.... Besides, no mater how good you think you are,an auto will beat a manual at the strip all day long, everything else being equal.
Huh? Maybe if you're bracket racing. I'll admit that there may be a few cars that are quicker with an automatic, but on average, a stock car will be about a second quicker 0-60 with a stick. With more power, the difference would be less noticable.

I've driven my friend's Ford Ranger before. Yup, one of thoose old long throw, mechanical clutch, five speed manuals. I only got it out of the drive way though. I managed to get it from start, to netural, to reverse, to backed out, and back to neutral without stalling. Don't get me wrong, I did stall out the first few times I went from neutral to reverse. If I can drive his old school manual tranny, than a Mustang with the same T5, short throws, and a hydrolic clutch shouldn't be a problem. I mean, there are no hills here in South Florida, the only thing that scares me about driving a manual is backing out, and stop and go traffic around here is relatively minimal. Plus there are a whole lot of back roads and side ways you can travel to get around traffic. I'm definetely going for the manual, but I might get a practice car before the 05'. Like a civic or some other $2000 throw away. Maybe I'll even be patriotic and get an Escort ! Well, my Accord sure is a lot of fun and will put me over till the 05' comes out...... OR NOT!!!!! darn it can run well but man it's the most uninspiring car in the world! The ride also gets a bit floaty sometimes at higher speeds. Handles well though. I can go through most tighter off ramps at 45 mph. But nothing really drives me to want to drive it. The only real exciting feature is the 6 cd disk changer. It's just boring. My dad's old Sables were more fun to drive. Well no need to worry bout me, I got plenty stored away in the bank from inheritence. I don't come from a rich family btw, my mom's parents never spent a dime. So yeah. I look foward to this and a FFR kit Cobra. Cheers to life, cause you only live it once. For some, it's having sex with a beautiful woman, for me, I want to have a really nice car,..... then have sex with a really beautiful red head.. B) ! Later!

Weren't GM's F-bodies like that? Cost 780 extra for the Manual I think. 'Course, it was the 1-to-4 lock out 6 speed... Dunno if that lock out was the reason....
I believe the auto was standard and the M6 was a no-cost option.

The "skip shift" lockout was so that there would be a 1 MPG gain and the Camaro wouldn't have to pay gas guzzler tax or something like that.

Manual.

I currently have one of each: Manual in the classic, Auto in the 98GT (but with a shift kit). I bought the 98 with an auto because it was destined as a daily driver (summer) that my wife and I would share. She can drive a stick, but didn't want to mess with it during the workday commutes. We've since moved to an area that doesn't have the traffic that Detroit does.

Actually, the Ranger has a hydraulic clutch and the Mustang has a manual one, though I believe the 05 might be hydraulic.

The Civic would actually be a pretty good car to learn stick on, but you might get spoiled by the light clutch pedal. And the shifter.

Your talking about the new Ranger's right. Because the one I used to drive wasnt hydraulic. It was a '90.
Since when have the Ranger's been hydraulic?
I can't wait to see how a new car's manual transmission feels. If I thought mine was great, I wonder how smooth, fun, light, and quick this one will be.
I loved my ranger's long throw's, I can't wait to finally experience a sport feel.

My friend's is from the late 80's I think. It's a nice truck, but it's definitely used. It's in great condition though. Trust me, it's got a DEEP clutch. You don't just push it back, YOU PUSH IT ALL THE WAY BACK LOL!
edit * I know the current SN95 has mechanical but I believe I read somewhere than the new SN197s wil have hydraulic. Not sure which topic but it was on this board I believe.

Man, all this talk about Ranger's makes me miss it more. The deep clutch. the flimsy aceelerator pedal
Can't wait for the new S197 with its tight, new feel. I wont be driving an automatic until they have to amputate my left leg, or right arm

Even then.....I'd find a way of shifting with one leg and my left hand.

I know a person that can drive shift with one hand while on the the cell. It's crazy how she did it. It felt like she was on the verge of losing control every shift. Both legs were used, but to just use the right hand for steering and shifting is nuts.
