55 here. Coming from a dirt bike world throughout high school, my first licensed vehicle was a '73 Suzuki GT380. 3 cyl/2 stroke rocket w/6spd.

My first car was a used beater '68 Olds 442 that I bought in '75. 400 w/Hurst 3 spd. Fast and fun, blew up in 6 mos. (see below)*

Shifted gears away from American muscle for a backpack adventure from St. Louis across the West & Canada to Oregon in '76 and bought a used '70 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Big 6, 3 on the tree. Thing was a tractor.

Wound up in SoCal for a few years and traded the Cruiser for a slightly used '74 Jensen-Healey/Lotus in '77. It was one of only two "I gotta get one of those!" car moments in my life. Loved that car - handling, style, unique, made me into a true mechanic keeping it for 15 years (J-H went under in '77). The high revving 2.0L DOHC 4V slant 4 would take anything in its class incl 6's - TR-6's, 240-280Z's, etc. That Lotus 907 engine was the basis for the Lotus Turbo Espirit. (The "one that got away" for me - just didn't have enough money.)

Added a '72 Land Cruiser to the stable in '79. Big 6, 3 on the floor, hunter green. Thing was a tractor. Took me back to Oregon. Totalled in '83 which brought me into the Ford family with my F150 4X (still have @ 253k).

Although I didn't own a Mustang back then, during HS a buddy had a '65 2+2, 289 auto, that I spent a lot of time in. Wanted one but then there was that gas price thing... and the new Mustang's became Pinto's in disquise. I watched Mustangs come and go and morph, but really wasn't inspired again until the S197. They caught my eye and interest.

So my Bullitt is my first Mustang. It was the second of only two "I gotta get one of those!" car moments in my life. In large part because of that Steve McQueen thing - from "On Any Sunday" and "Bullitt".

>>>
* For reference, look at that torque number from 'back in the day' pushrods! (Olds 442: 400 V8 350 bhp @ 5000 rpm, 440 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm. Manual transmission)
But the nimble 08 Bullitt and its little 281 3V SOHC beats Olds mightiest in the 0-60 & the Qtr. (Motor Trend)
Performance: (Hurst/Olds: 455/390 bhp/500 lb-ft: 0-60 in 5.4 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.9 sec @ 103 mph

I'm fifty and drove a 67 and a 68 firebird. Also had a 72 monte with a 454 in it. Miss that car and when I got married 27 years ago I had a 73 grand prix. Wish I would have kept that barge.

Started driving/riding in '72. (Yah, I'm that old.)
70's Vehicles in order of purchase:

'68 Honda CB450 - Purchased in '72 - Sold for cash for Barracuda parts

'67 Plymouth Barracuda fastback - Inherited from my brother in '73
Rebuilt the engine in high school auto shop.
More tickets than any other vehicle I've owned.
One memorable cite for "Operating a sound truck without a permit" while sitting on the hood in the parking lot of the local pizza parlor.
Totalled in crash. No one in the car. Long story...

'66 Triumph Spitfire - Bought from a friend in '74
Couldn't keep a clutch in it. Pressure plate kept shearing away from the hub. Max of 2500 miles between breakdowns. Really easy to pull the trans and replace clutch. Did it five times...
Sold to another friend with "end of the driveway" warranty for cash to purchase Pinto in '75.

'71 Ford Pinto - My DD from '75 until '83
This car was indestructible.

'76 Honda MT250 Enduro - My weekend fun until I married in '79.

There ya have it folks. A lost decade...

Turned 16 in 1970 and got my sisters 66 Mustang 6cyl auto. Nightmist blue with off white interior, it was beautiful. Jacked it up all the way around and added chrome reversed wheels, blacked out grill, took out pony and added hood pins. Beat it unmercifully and it never broke. Traded for a:

69 Austin Healy Sprite, red with black top and interior, learned A LOT about fixing cars because it broke if you hot rodded it any. Sold it and bought:

67 Cougar, base 289 with 3 speed. Silver blue inside and out. Sweet car that got hit and totaled by a guy with no insurance. Wish I still had it.

66 GT 2+2 Mustang, Springtime yellow with black pony interior, 289 3 speed and ac, paid $500 for it, hit a tree, smashed in the whole right side. Got $200 for it which went towards my $700...

69 Camaro SS350, auto, hugger orange with black vinyl top and interior. Traded for:

74 MGB...was like new with only 18k miles. Rare whiteish gray color with overdrive. Every time I'd get it out of the body shop, someone would hit it again. Let ins. total it after the last time and paid $900 cash for:

68 Firebird 400, 4 speed. Turquois and rust with black vinyl top and interior. Hauled ***. Gave it to my younger brother when I bought my:

74 Triumph Spitfire, British racing green black top and interior. Fun and fairly reliable. Fell asleep at the wheel and rolled it in a ditch, totaled. This brings us up to 1977 0r 78. Bought a:

76 Camaro, Yellow with tan interior, 305 PS, PB auto and AC. Very low miles and still smelled new. Pretty luxurious and nice after the previous rides. Some ******* hit the right rear quarter panel before I'd made my first payment, cost $75 to have it fixed. Sold it in 81 and bought:

73 MGB which I still have. Was dark red with black interior, now black with red leather interior. Have rebuilt everything at least twice and drove it as my only car for 20 years. In between rebuilds had a:

73 Camaro that was my brothers. Had it while he was stationed in Japan. By the time he got home it was worn out, had way over 100k on it and was falling apart. Was a nice car though, dark blue metallic, off white interior with Keystone Classic mags and raised white letter tires. 350 auto, PS, PB ac. After my bro in law died of cancer, my dad gave me his:

2000 Ranger XLT extended cab pickup. Beautiful dark blue with grey cloth interior and chrome wheels. V6 auto. Sweet little truck, faster and handled better than my first Mustang lol. Put about 130k trouble free miles on it, sold it for $5800 when I bought my:

05 GT that I have now and will never get rid of. Love this car! Guess you could say it was the only "new" car I've bought. Had 1022 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Had never been sold and sat there until Jan 07 when I bought it. Paid $22,400. Sticker was $28,120. I think it's got all options that were available. I do know it's one of 497 white GT coupes with 5 speed manual and red seats made in 05. When the S197's came out I HAD to have one.

Plan to sell the 73 MGB as I never drive it anymore, time to let it go to a new home and let someone else enjoy it. I've reached that age where I'd rather drive and maintain a car instead of having to fix an old British sports car. Almost forgot my dads car that I got when he died 3 years ago. It's a:

03 Lincoln LS V8. Black with grey leather and loaded. Not even 60k miles on it yet. Very nice car, handles well and fast to boot...........but it ain't a Mustang!

My first three cars were Mustangs.

69 Boss 302 - Acupulco Blue with Black striping that reflected gold in headlights.

I had two regular fastbacks prior than that but I'm so old I can't recall much of anything else.

I once had a wrecked 64-1/2 red mustang I won in a poker game, I was going to restore but alas it had a twisted frame and sat for three years before I lost it in a poker game!
