50 years later.....
I'm close enough to 62 to say that I'm 62. In the last few months I retired while in the middle of a divorce. I can't think of a better excuse for another mid-life crisis.
I saw my first Mustang in '64. But I fell in lust a year later with a '65 GT350 that was tooling around town in Colonia, NJ. The owner had painted (in Guardsman Blue) Asphalt Angel on the fenders behind the front wheel openings. I always dreamt that if I ever was lucky enough to own a 65-68 GT350, I'd name it Asphalt Angel II. Screw the purists.
I'm ashamed to admit that despite the generation I'm from, I've never owned a muscle car. But I do now....took delivery 12 days ago. It's not a GT350, it's not even white. But it shares Asphalt Angel's DNA and that suits me just fine.
It won't see rain or snow. I clean it every day. And for the first time in 18 years, a car is now my garage as God intended. It took me over a week of re-configuring and stealing inches, but my Mustang now has a corral.
I won't race or abuse it. For s***s and giggles I had it to 100 mph the day I took delivery. Scared the crap out of me and I probably won't do that again. But it's nice knowing that I can.
As for mods, I love what a lot of you are doing. Keep it up. I haven't seen a Mustang on this forum that I didn't like. But I'll just live vicariously through some of your more radical conversions.
I've done a couple of things though, nothing serious. A white, 60's cue ball style **** has replaced the stock one, and she's been treated to a set of embroidered GT trunk and floor mats.
Down the road, maybe a set of wheels (but I do like my 19" OEMs), and perhaps a mild lowering for cosmetics only.
On Monday, I have an appointment for an estimate and selection of stripes...probably a pair of 10" in Sterling Gray Metallic or close to it, just on the hood, deck lid, and spoiler. The car doesn't need a whole lot for my purposes. I'm just thrilled to death to finally have my dream car.
Oh, I forgot. I did add one other thing....my first dash plaque from a cruise nite as a participant. So far it's my favorite mod!!! It's the little things in life, ya know.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It's a beauty Tom. Like me it looks like you understand that at our age it's time to enjoy the things we just couldn't afford as kids. Oh yeah, if you are considering exhaust might I suggest a set of Ford Racing GT500's. They have a great sound at take off, and quiet down nicely with no drone at cruising speeds. I listen to the exhaust more than I listen to the radio these days. Bought mine from American Muscle for $300 bucks.

Also sorry about the divorce.
Enjoy all the car shows in your area. Most attendees are wonderful folks and of all ages. The registration fees go to good causes, ranging from 'cops and kids' days to juvenile diabetes programs. Mustangs are always plentiful, from '60s to 'new'. You usually can find a show each weekend during the summer. You can here anyway. I'm sure NJ is the same.
Enjoy your new life. It's never too late.

no sympathy here..Congratulations on retiring. .I retired at 62 also, that was three years ago. Never looked back. I got myself a 2001 Corvette, had fun, then decided it was time to try a "Feisty" V6 Mustang. Great car.
You will be surprised at how busy you get after retirement, so just enjoy the ride!

My new career is keeping a black car clean and detailed and figuring out new stuff to buy for it.....some mods are planned, nothing serious.
Man, this is fun.
