Always wanted one ...

Saw my first red Mustang Fastback 2+2 at age 17 on showroom floor, made my heart go pitty-pat.

But I got sidetracked with cheaper, quicker motorcycles and spent most of my money over the next five decades on bikes, women and liquor, the rest of it I just threw away.

And during that period there were some oversized, undersized (remember the Mustang II?), and a bunch of butt-ugly Mustangs, not to mention the EPA neutering the engines.

But a sidehack vs. cage accident three years ago buggered up left leg, making me reconsider my earliest love, now in the guise of a race red 2011 GT Premium. Bought it in September, an automatic because of my bum leg.

What a car, well worth the 46 year wait what with 412 hp, monster brakes, and ride, comfort and handling the '66 couldn't come near. So far have installed rubber floormats, Airaid CAI system and Bama tune, but first addition was Duluth Trading Co. dog seat cover so the mutts can ride along without trashing the deluxe brick red/cashmere interior.

Wife was surprised at my allowing the dogs to ride in the car (I won't let anyone with dirty clothes to ride in the car, and I get kinda hincky with folks eating iin the ****pit) leading her to refer to the car as the "Mutts' 'Stang."

Car now has 7700 miles on it, not one problem despite the fact I have run the hell out of it. Took it to the strip several times, turned 13.2 @ 109 mph at Mason-Dixon Dragway in November. Needed slicks, could have gotten into 12s easily if I could have kept rear wheels from spinning through first two gears.

Now that there is snow and salt on the roads, spend my time waxing and polishing it in the garage.

I plan on running the Maxton Mile this summer to see what kind of top speed I can turn.

Yeah, I know I'm 63 years old, but I feel if I'm not living on the edge, I'm taking up too much space.

Thanks for reading this overly-long self-absorbed treatise.

Welcome to the site. I love the red leather and wish I would have gotten it in mine.

Cool Pretty Hot In Red Bro!

Pete: Love your very hot looking Red Pony! Happy Times! I too fell in love with the original red GT 2+2 fastbacks back in the day. Been pretty much Stang Crazy ever since that day. Kind of like when Ol' Jim tasted his first "MJ" cookie on the TV show Taxi! Always wished they would have done some of the S-197 GT/CS's in this wonderful red color also. But still having a blast with our own white CalStang none the less. Welcome aboard Sir and Enjoy!! "RC"

My first car was a '66 2+2, so I can relate very well. Nice to have you aboard!

(I'd let my dogs in the car before a lot of people, so good choice there too!)
