Really depends on where u buy the consoles from. I never remember seeing PS2's having problems like that before where they actually had to go back to the drawing boards and fix it. I mean, if u buy the consoles from a place like Best Buy or EB games (new console, not used), good chance that it will be fine but getting it from a Wal Mart or Sams Club is bad news. I one time bought a PC from sams club and it didnt work out of the box, but that doesnt mean everybody else had the same problem.

I had both of those systems. I loved Altered Beast in Sega Genesis

Well now it's down to two times the power, but it still kicks X-Box's hiney. Yes the XBox has 3 3.2 GhZ PowerPC cores but the PS3 has One 3.2 GhZ PowerPC Cell core combined with 7 additional Specialized 3.2G Processors along with one redundant one. That comes to a total of 9 3.2GhZ Processors vs. 3 3.2GhZ processors. Plus the 9 cell processors work in an entirely different way than any other processor out there. 2 Teraflops vs. 1 Teraflop. There you go, twice as much. Combine that with the revolutionary new rsx video card (the equivalent of 2 Geforce 6800 cards and then some) and you've got one bad-hiney system. It's funny because now Microsoft is basically saying that it's the software that counts, not the hardware. I guess since PS2 proved that to be true, they think they can use that excuse. Difference being that the PS2 actually HAD the software while many people believed that Halo and Halo 2 were the only reasons to keep one's XBox. Even then, Halo was much better for PC than XBox.

First, you need to understand that there is a difference between processor cores and extra processing "elements." Sony has a single core chip. Not 7, not 8, not 9. The CELL has a tested output of around 200-250Gflop. Sony's own posted numbers state 218 gflops of total floating point performance. That's it! Stop buying into the hype. The Xbox 360's PowerPC processor has three symetric cores with documented performance of over a 1 Tflop. That's not some "on paper" or "in theory" spec.
Now here come's Sony with a new claim that its GRAPHICS core adds on an additional 1.8Tflop of processing power for a total of 2Tflop. Remarkable! Now GPU's can "add" processing power. Reminds me of thost those Hyper-threading P4 guys that think their pentuims have TWO processors. As for Sony, I haven't seen a better marketting swindle since Bose's "better sound through research" campaign (ask around).
Since neither system has been released yet, we are all limited to speculation at this point, but I think you will find, when the dust has settled, that the Xbox has a superior processing solution, while Sony is up to it's usual marketing ploys. Remember the "emotional engine" hype vs. the posted performance numbers? Enough said.
p.s. since we're into the whole partisan thing, why not check out the lastest comparo from the vole at IGN

To me all you need to see is the Killzone Trailer to understand what I'm talking about. And despite whatever rumors about it being fake started by Microsoft it has now been confirmed as real gameplay by SCEA VP Jack Tretton. Enjoy.

Purple Hayz, glad to see someone else on board with the X. PS2 was a fine console, but I have a tendancy to become loyal to things. ex: Mustangs, Xbox. Also glad to see another Elder Scrolls fan. Can't wait for Oblivion. I bought Morrowind because it was 20 bucks and looked cool and I loved it.
I agree that people need to realize that having the power on paper doesn't mean anything untill you can compare them head to head. That is part of the reason I like AMD. They are the underdog if you will, yet in my opinion they make better processors.
O, and has anyone played Truxton for Sega?

Well, then we'll have to wait and see. That IGN link proves absolutely nothing seeing as it was actually a letter written to IGN BY MICROSOFT. Obviously they are going to spin it so it sounds more in their favor. We CAN agree, however, that Nintendo is going to have some difficulty in the upcoming console war. I still say they should resort to software only. (e.g. Sega)

I love Nintendo and seeing them do software only would be a disaster imo.

I am very fortunate to have had parents who bought consoles when I was small. Whats cooler is that when I was 6 I battled my dad in Tecmo World Cup for the NES, and now I battle him in Fifa 2005 @ 18. How technology changes makes me very happy. Usually

I've been talking to a bunch of people areound my school many of whom own a Xbox... all of whom now want a PS3. IMO Xbox's only hope is Halo, hence the reason they're releasing it to compete with the ps3. Unless Halo 3 is super good... I dont see Microsoft making a Xbox 3...
