You might look into this. Its a heck of a lot cheaper then Satt. and it would wrk in a laptop on a trip. Most of the people up here who travel use this, and they've had no complaints. Now, its not as fast as Satt. in areas that haven't been upgraded to "broadband" ... so it may not be a viable choice yet.

The was great...until the end. The end was one of the worst game endings ever, IMO.

theres an ooooolllllder one that some star wars fans might appreciate
star wars force cocmmander was great, but i have a feeling most modern RTS's will put it to shame lol

Force Commander was alright. Its unit and camera control kinda blew, though. As said, look up Empire at War.

Hmm if you were just a little closer to us you could snitch off our Wifi like everyone else in the neighborhood.
I got kicked off....Brian investigated- every ahole on this road was leaching.

So he kicked em off with a nice little message. And locked em out for good.

Scott- all the tycoon games are fun!

"A little closer" is an understatement. Scott would be better off with two tin cans, some string, and a whole lot of praying.

Empire At War does look good, but I'll mention something that's actually out right now.

Rome: Total War. Now, it is sort of tricky to classify this as an RTS. The single-player campaign map is actually turn-based, however the actual combat is real-time. It even includes a single-player "instant action" style mode so you don't have to play the turn-based portion if all you want is some real-time combat.

I should add, the combat is more involved than a StarCraft style game. Proper use and deployment of forces can be a huge key to success. Such as charging your Calvary into the flank of enemy infantry. Rather, than say a Zerg Rush type of tactic.

If that's not up your alley try Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War or Age of Empires 3.

Cool Q'res, Rome: Total War sounds interesting.

In Starcraft, my preferred metheod of attack right now is 2 fleets of Protoss carriers, with scouts and arbitors following to keep cloaked and see invis'd enemies, bring one in on each side of their base at the same time. Spreads their attackers out more and with carriers being so strong, they can wipe out anything quick.

For Starcraft I always preferred the Terrans, Firebats, Battleships, and the tanks were my favorite. I actually used a leap-frog tactic with the tanks. Split the force in half, deploy the first half in "artillery" mode, move the second half forward and then deploy them, with the artie unit firing on any enemies within range. Rinse and repeat.

Edited to add more details on Rome:

Using proper tactics in RTW has some interesting effects. Using the Calvary manuever I mention previously it's actually possible to cause the enemy troops to break and flee in panic. You can also siege cities, and once weakend you can choose to attack, you have to breach the city walls, and you can have siege weaponry as well. I recall taking back a rebel city (the Roman Senate asked me to retake it) and burning down half the city because I used flaming ammo for the Onagers. Then after retaking the city I had three options, I could simply take the city as it was, put the population into slavery (boosting the population of all my cities), or put them to the sword. The sword actually only takes out 75% of the towns population, but you get benefits from doing so.

I won't say what I did, but rebelling against the power of Rome cannot be tolerated and an example had to be made.
