what are you listening to ?
One of my favorites . . .
That old man upstairs, he wears a crooked smile
Staring down at the chaos he created
Said son if you ain't having fun just wait a little while
Momma's gonna wash it all away
And she thinks Mercy's overrated . .

You got a bad, bad woman with a young little pretty face
They told you not to go get married but you went and did it anyway
Singin', oh sweet sounds of American you
Never miss a Sunday service, never got tattoos
Every time we drive by wavin', I see right through
Tudutudutudu, **** you too . . .

But legends are made out of vulnerable men
So on the brink of death I still manage livin life
Cause so rarely in this world are these chances given twice
I indeed sold my soul, without glancing at the price
No instructions when I was handed this device
But with what I did get, I was more than generous
Put others over self on several instances
But I'm back on my feet without a hint of bitterness
And one way or another I shall have deliverance
So I say . . .

Just watched one of the best rockumentaries in recent years. Called 20 Feet From Stardom, it focuses on several of the great background singers in Rock and Roll, including Darlene Love, Claudia Lennear, Judith Hill, and others. If you're a stone cold fan of rock, soul, pop and R&B like I am, this is a must see.
But the absolute highlight of the movie is Merry Clayton....one very classy lady. I wish her the best after a devastating and near fatal car accident in 2014.
This makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Daddy tell me another story
Tell me about the lows and the highs
Tell me how to tell the difference between what they tell me is the truth or a lie
Tell me why the ones who have so much make the ones who don't go mad
With the same skin stretched over their white bones and the same jug in their hand

And it hurts . . .
She gave me the Queen
She gave me the King
She was wheelin' and dealin'
Just doin' her thing
She was holdin' a pair
But I had to try
Her Deuce was wild
But my Ace was high
But how was I to know
That she'd been dealt with before
Said she'd never had a Full House
But I should have known
From the tattoo on her left leg
And the garter on her right
She'd have the card to bring me down
If she played it right
She's got the jack, she's got the jack
She gave me the Queen
She gave me the King
She was wheelin' and dealin'
Just doin' her thing

If she played it right
She's got the jack, she's got the jack
'cause growin up I was never the logical one,
Packed my **** and left home like the prodigal son
With a bottle of jack and my shotgun strapped,
I went looking for fame and yo I've never been back
Filled with spite staying high as a kite,
I was dealin and stealin everything in sight
Pool hustling trying to make that green,
I've been ramblin and gamblin since the age of 13
