We still crush them in Ontario. Doesn't matter what make/model the vehicle is. If you are doing 50 over on a highway and not another car is in site, the fine is still for "street racing". Kiss your car goodbye.

That is total BS. They will impound your car and suspend your licence for 7 days, for various things under Highway Traffic Act section 172.

They do not "crush" your car.

I'm not for street racing or anything but I find it very funny that they crush civic turbos for street racing and they don't even impound the cars that take part in the gumball 3000. The guys racing accumulate thousands in fines and just keep right on going
I guess if you are rich and drive a bentley you don't have to worry?

That would have been a more beneficial solution but I think crushing the cars whole was sending a strong message to the illegal racing community.

I'll bet if those were $30,000 mustangs, the city would not be crushing them.

Beware these sort of laws. Like most things regarding cars and driving these laws typically ignore all the principles of a free society.

Even though I have no love for the 'riceboy' crowd there's no way to tell who harmed someone street racing, who slipped the clutch and chirped the tires at the wrong moment, and who merely showed up to watch a street race. In some instances as I recall people just driving nearby got rounded up as part of a sweep of 'street racers' Same with people who were at businesses that used the parking lot where street racers gathered. When there is a sweep anyone with a car that looks fast within reach is potential victim.

It's a shame but it's part of the reason why I don't associate with too many car clubs or cruise in large groups anymore.
